  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello All,

I have a friend who has a Norton Firewall and I he dosen't think he could lend it to me because of copyright violations.

Is it OK for him to lend it to me so I could use it and save some money?
Or would we possibly get in trouble?

God Bless,

Hector

It is unlikely that you'd get caught, but yes, that would be violating the license agreement on the software. The idea is, you buy a license for each copy of the software that will be in use. One on your computer, one on his computer, that's two copies - so somewhere in there, Symantec should get to sell two copies.

It's a lot like books. When a friend lends you a book, while you're borrowing it, *he doesn't have it*.

What you are proposing is stealing. Norton Anti-Virus is copyrighted.

There are freely distributable antivirus programs. I think one is called AVG. A bit of searching on www.google.com for 'free anti virus software' (or similar) will get you what you need. These programs offer updates, etc.

EDIT: AVG is available at www.grisoft.com.

If you need a firewall, Zone Labs has a very good one called Zone Alarm and its free.  There are a few other free firewalls also.  Using your friend's would be illegal.
