  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am 26 and I recently met this girl, she is a 20 year old Christain part time student. She attends services 2 times weekly, and her description is 5'0" athletic red head blue eyes, she sounds attractive. Anyways I was wondering is our age gap too great to have a successful relationship? Has anyone experienced this age gap before?
Is 20 to young for a girl to be in a relationship?

My grandparents, who just celebrated their 52nd wedding anneversary, are around 12 or 14 years apart. So I think six years could work. As far as her being 20, it isn't necessarily too young, but it really depends on the girl. I think prayer is key here.

As long as she doesn't feel that it is too much of a gap, the ages shouldn't be an issue. I do find it somewhat concerning that you give a physical description of her but say nothing about what sort of person she is. Do you actually know her well enough to be considering a relationship yet or is this just infatuation with someone you barely know, based largely on outward appearance?

Kind of... I just met her online, I was just wondering if I should even go on a date with her? I have no infatuation I just met her and am thinking, "do I want to date a 20 year old???" To be honest the only reason I am even considering dating her is the fact that she goes to church 2 times a week, I am excited to be around someone else that loves the lord. But I am sure if we dated it would soon be a relationship. I guess I will just hope she is mature and a caring person

theres a four year gap between myself and my boyfriend and it works fine, one of my close friends is 25 and his girlfriend is 19 and that works fine too, if you guys are on a similar maturity level, and get along, age shouldnt really matter, its just a number, by the time you reach your mid to late teenage years the actual digits of your age dont matter, coz some 26 year olds are just as immature as some 16 year olds and some 19 year olds are as mature as a 25 year old, it depends on what theyve experienced. age is just a number.

You could always start by hanging out with her as friends and not putting any pressure on it being a 'relationship' until you know each other better.

Thanks for the advice, I agree that would be ideal, but that is not what the situation is setting up...

This may sound crazy and corny but I am 30 but as a kid, I used to love men on tv that were like my father's age. Still do as I think they are much more handsomer. No offense to those young one's or my age range. But I used to have a crush on the Newlywed Game host Bob Eubanks. Gosh he was gourgeous. Still is!!

My first reaction is No she not too young. She sounds like a honey but how mature is she? But on thinking about it I would say that you really really should seek God on this. Actully both should be seeking God on this!

also find out where she is in her life and her goals, if you and her have a lot in commen and you pray about it and it looks like God is pointing you in that direction, why not, give it a try. Going on a date is maring the person...lol

I guess it all depends! I'm 29 and the girl I am dating is 21, so far so good. I guess best advice I can give is pray about it and see if you have peace or if the age gap bothers you. At first I too was a little lery, "we've been seeing eachother for about 2 months now and everything seems OK. If you have peace date for awhile and see how things unfold.

To me I think it is okay. Right now I have started to like a girl in my youth group that is only 15 and I am 18. So I think that your age gap is better to work with then mine I believe that I have to wait at least another year before hooking up with this girl.

Glad that age isn't a factor but your characters are. Here's to two more months and maybe even more!!

When I was 27, I met a 20 yr old, and we had a lot in common. Similar philosophy on life, enjoyed the same kind of music, we both were into art etc. She was a Christian, but not involved in a church at the time. A mutual friend, who was 23, encouraged me to 'go for it.' I thought the age gap was too great (a matter of numbers, no major maturity issues that I could see)... but in retrospect, it might've worked out. After all, I rarely run into 'my type' out there. We both 'clicked' together conversationally, had good chemistry, and even looked about the same age. Should've listened to my friend! Anyway, I think it may be worth at least trying to get to know her better. If things progress towards a dating relationship, and you both have compatible maturity levels, I think age will only be as much of a factor as you let it become.

I think that we all could use a timeout as well to settle things down. Point well-taken!!
