  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Bulldog!

In a nutshell...

Christ's reign is now, in Heaven and not a future earthly reign. The 1000 years are symbolic of the New Testament era

Christ will come 1 more time - on Judgement Day.

The Rapture happens ON Judgement Day and is not a seperate event.

This essay gets into more detail and includes scripture proofs and refutes comon passages used by mills.

In short, like the overwhelming majority of Christendom, and on the basis of Scripture alone, Lutherans are amillenialists. Here's the LCMS link position.

It's 65 pages long, but is actually an interesting read.

I'd bet it's very similar to the WELS position (I intend to check it out later).

One word...."Amillennialism".

I believe that Calvinists hold the same belief. Roman Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Anglican, some Baptists and many others also hold this view. The vast majority of Christiandom is amillennialist in their eschatological beliefs. The only place in the world where anything else(dispensentional pre-tribulation rapture, followed by a literal 1000-year reign of Christ on earth) rivals it is in the southern US.

I've read the essay that Theo posted a while ago. I recommend reading it. I haven't read the one that Rech posted, so I can't comment on that one.

Unfortunatly, that is what is taught and believed at my school.
Well, every school has a bias. I was taught evolution all through school, until I finished high school. I didn't even know that it might conflict the Bible until around grade 12.

One thing that I've learned about school, is that the teachers don't know everything. They are learning too. It gets quite amusing when you get to University (especially the later years), because sometimes you'll know more than your teacher will on a certain subject.

I, myself, try not to get wrapped up in Eschatology, I think the whole point is that we should know who has the final victory and that is Christ Jesus. The time and date are not for ust to know:
Matt 24:42 (from New International Version) said:
42 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
That last day will be apparent:
Matt 24:26-31(from New International Version) said:
26 "So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.
29 "Immediately after the distress of those days

"'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'

30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
Yet, I guess I would go with amillenialism if I had to choose. Christ will come again, and that day will be marvelous indeed.
