Question for Kenny G fans

I've recently discovered Kenny G. I've heard a couple of his albums through the public library. They had some cd's by him so I decided to check them out and really enjoyed them. I've heard two albums: 1)The Most Romantic Melodies of all Time and 2)Ultimate Kenny G.

I was thinking of actually buying some cd's by him but I don't know where to begin. Any suggestions? Should I just get a greatest hits album of some sorts or are all of his songs pretty good.

If you have better recommendations please list them. I've never listened to jazz before so I don't know where to begin. What would you recommend?

There's nothing really wrong with Kenny G, he's just not jazz. (Or very good.) If you're into the whole light jazz thing, maybe Alphonso Blackwell, Grover Washington Jr. (sax) or Earl Klugh (guitar).

It's kind of asking rock fans about good Nickleback songs. They're ok, I guess, just not very good rock...

Kenny G is easy listening but still considered 'smooth jazz'. He is our homeboy here so I show him respect.

Jazz is defined by the syncopated rhythms and the different modes it uses, usually lydian (or mixolydian) modes in place of major scales, and/or blues or minor pentatonic scales in place of minor ones. Of course, it uses many more modes, than those, but the point is Kenny G stays in the "normal" major and minor keys, which are much more confining. Which is why I would hesitate to call him "jazz."
