Someone told me this through PM

"Jesus took on our sins on the cross and gave up His spirit, the spirit of the Father, and recieved the punishment, yet He was still the same person"

My question is, is it sufficient to believe in the above, to enter paradise? Or do our actions have any say in this matter?

I don't think it was worded very well.

Jesus suffered and died for our sins so that we might be holy in the eyes of God.

We were the ones who deserved that punishment, not him.

In essence what Jesus did was to nail all those sins to the cross to get rid of them once and for all so that we wouldn't suffer for all eternity but will inherit eternal life for all who believe.

Does that make better sense?

Thanks for your post. But it didnt really answer my question.

My question was that is it sufficient to believe that Jesus (peace be upon him) "nailed our sins on the cross"? In other words, does this belief remove our obligation of worshipping God and is sufficient to take us to paradise?

To put it simply, is there a concept of "worship" in christianity? Or is it all about belief?

Thanks again,

-Jannah

Wow, talk about an odd question. I don't think I understand it.

Are you trying to make a distinction between faith and worship?

I really don't think you can do that. It is my faith that draws me to worship.

Just as my love for my husband draws me to fulfill my duties as a wife, mother etc.

They go hand in hand.

Faith compells us to want to worship. For those with weak faith, they tend not to desire worship. Unfortuntely a distain for worship actually hurts a person's faith because a big part of worship is that God strengthens your faith.

No, we do worship God with praise and with life and cannot just make a mental assention that we believe in God and do nothing more in order to be saved for His Kingdom. We fight the fight of faith in this life to have victory over the sin nature of man we are born with and that all men born inherit from Adam.
Jesus, God manifested in the flesh of man, took on the curse and sin and death for all mankind that came by way of Adam and the fall in the garden. That is why all men born of man inherit sin and death. Even the Koran mentions the virgin birth in Marium, yet fails to expand on the significance of her having that birth while never having known a man sexually; not of a man, but of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not inherit the nature of sin and death from Adam, but had God as His father by way of the Holy Spirit. Thus He kept perfect communion with the Father and did His will in life, giving up Himself for all others in sacrifice of love. The Christian does not limit the dimension of God, but accepts the fact that God can be three persons yet one God - this being for mankind's benefit.
God instructs that we die to selfish ambitions and take upon ourselves a cross that is personal to each one of us in life; that we, in kind, learn the sacrifice of love and be servants to mankind as He was. Jesus said to be chief among men was to be a servant, and that is our true goal in humility - to serve Him and others as Master, as He said that even the least of people we serve will also be Him we serve.
The Bible tells us that we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ's sacrifice to cover our sinful lives, yet we are supposed to be transformed thrugh this life, step by step, into His image - being more and more like Him who we adore.
Here's a few verses that may help:

JOHN 17:3 And this is the way to have eternal life--by KNOWING you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth!

I JOHN 4:7-13 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and KNOWS God. Whoever does not love does not KNOW God, because God is love.

I JOHN 3:16-19 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us.

LUKE 6:46 Why do you call me "Lord, Lord" and not do what I say?

MATT. 7:21 It is NOT those who say to me "Lord, Lord" who will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the person who DOES the will of my Father in heaven.

I JOHN 2:3-6 We know that we have come to KNOW him if we OBEY his commands. The man who SAYS "I know God", but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: WHOEVER CLAIMS TO LIVE IN HIM MUST WALK AS JESUS DID.

JOHN 14:23 Jesus replied, " If anyone loves me, he will OBEY my teaching. 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me.

Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his
cross daily, and follow Me.
24 "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.
25 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?

Mt 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Mt 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

This was actually the central issue of the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. The Catholic Church holds that salvation comes from good deeds done out of faith. Protestantism teaches salvation by faith alone. Good deeds are still commanded, and are evidence of true faith, but do not get anybody into paradise.
In a nutshell:
Catholicism: faith + good works = salvation
Protestantism: faith = salvation + good works

Unless that's a misprint, I don't believe that the quote is accurate.

"Paradise" is actually a seperate and distinct place from Heaven.

In order to be forgiven and reconciled to God and enter Heaven, we must first repent of our sins and put our faith in Christ and His atoning work on the cross.

Our actions cannot save us, but they are an indicator of whether or not we're saved.

Jannah, let me see if I can help you with this question.

First thing is, we must realize that we are sinners (have all done bad things) and because of that we are going to hell.
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

Their is nothing we can do about absolutely nothing and because of that we all deserve to die.
Rom 6:23 The wages of sin is death!

Now Christ loved us and does not want to see any of us to die and be separated. Because of that he sent his one and only Son to die on the cross for us. I don't know anything about your family background, but just think of giving up the most special person/thing you can think of to help someone who is in jail for murder, rape, something awful like that. Do you think you could give up a close family member and kill them for that person???? Your own child if you have one???

You see, that's what Christ did for us! Romans 6:23 continues and says "but the gift of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

In a nutshell, YES we are saved by faith alone. Honestly though, if you believe in this faith and are saved yet you don't even feel like worshipping God or refuse to, well, there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with your life. Does this make sense? The fact that we can receive the greatest gift ever! and go to heaven to be with God should be enough alone to worship him. PM me or something if this helps or not.

Wow, you're comparing me as a human being to God?? Why would God have to die on the cross to save us? I think that is blasphemy against God at its worst!

May God guide us all to the path that is right.

Your confession that Jesus is Lord and that you accept his death on the cross as forgiveness of your sins is sufficient.

In the Gospel of John 1:12 it is written

"But as many as received him to them gave he the power to become the sons of God. Even to them that believed on his name."

Then in Romans 10:9 it says:

"If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart man believes until righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

It doesn't get any easier (or clearer) than that.

God bless you,

I can go you one even better! Roman's 5:8 says:

"God commands his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

The Bible is God's inspired word, so for Christians to say they don't believe it because they don't feel worthy enough is like throwing God's gift back in His face, now that's blasphamy! It's possible that you may be thinking in the flesh. God does not consider the flesh.

You may know the story how God told Adam if he ate of the tree of good and evil that he would surely die. Well, Adam ate the fruit and he died. Spiritually. Jesus said that God is a Spirit and he that worships Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Jesus also said that flesh cannot please God.

God did not have a relationship with Adam's flesh man, his relationship was with the real man, Adam's spirit man.

Because of the dubious birthright passed on by Adam, all who are born into this world are born spiritually dead to God. That is why we must be born again, meaning we become spiritually alive to God. When you take flesh out of the equation, you can appreciate how important you are because it is your supernatural spirit that God calls out to and what Jesus came to this earth to die for.

God bless you,

The Guide

Well, the beauty of all of this, is that he didn't die and stay dead. He's alive! I mean if he is God he can't stay dead right?

I was just giving you a situation that hopefully you could relate with.

This is starting to sound rather gnostic.

To try and answer the OP, it's not sufficient to believe any particular doctine - "even the demons believe" as St James puts it.

Real faith is putting one's trust and life in God's hands to transform.

Our actions... always matter.

How can you claim that Jesus is your Lord, if you do not follow him?

The answer is.. You can't.

Our Actions.. will always matter.

I hope I have answered this Question for you.

It is called an analogy, it is used to present a point, so that it may be understood by the receiver. To put things into terms that another can understand and relate to, by the use of an analogy is not blasphemy in any form.

Isn't God's love worthy of paying attention to with worship and respect? Would not His making us in His image for His pleasure have any high importance? If His will is to love His creation in man, then it is blasphemy to go against the worth He has placed in His creation, as He decided to suffer pain and torment in the flesh of Jesus to free mankind from the enslavement of sin and death....

Ro 5:15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.

Real faith is putting one's trust and life in God's hands to transform.
Amen, there is no easy believeism, as all who follow Jesus go through the way of the cross and die to self and pride. Transformation comes into the true believer's life in time by faith in the blood of the lamb to cleanse us from all sin and the word of our testimony that we fight the good fight of faith against that old nature of sin and death.
By the fruit of their lives they shall be known, and they should examine their lives to see if they are indeed in the faith.

Gal. 5:22-24 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self–control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Mt 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Mt 12:33 "A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad.

2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.

Jannah--

Without actions this won't mean anything. True faith's byproducts is works. No, works don't save you alone but one can't just have faith in something and there isn't any actions.

James 2:26 - ..faith without works is dead also.

For example, one has faith that their car will take them to work but if they don't turn the key they won't be going any where.

Many people believe in Christ but out of all those that believe, only some will see paradise. you dont just believe and become saved. you MUST REPENT OF YOUR SINS! you must STOP SINNING by calling on the Lord Jesus Christ and asking Him to come into your life to be your Lord and Savior. you must sincerely want the Lord in your life and you must confess your sins to Him and ask Him to forgive you. Once He comes into your life, He will break all the chains that the devil has laid upon your life and He will set you freed from sins. you will then no longer have the desire to sin but you will have the desire to live a holy life that is set apart from sins and anything else that might hinder your walk with God. This is called being reborn...you are spirtually reborn with a new heart and a new mind.

Jesus does require more than simple head knowledge, we can ask God for the Holy Spirit to help us learn all Truth and His ways and to come in to our lives in guiding us to all Truth.

also reading the New Testament prayerfully will be helpful too.
