Hey there! :wave:I am a new Christian, and thus am experiencing massive amounts of questions and indecision on denomination. So I was given the idea that I should compose a list of questions and post them in each denominational subforum. Some of them have to do with the beliefs of the denomination, others are just questions of Christianity in general. I tried this in the General Theology, but I received bickering and varying sides.

So... thanks if you answer my questions. It is much appreciated. Please indicate whether your answer is your personal belief or your overall doctrinal belief. Please support answers with Scripture appropriately if possible. Again, MANY thanks!

- Dinosaurs. They did exist, and that's fact. Unless God put them on here to fool us into unbelief, since it doesn't mention them in the Bible, but I don't think He'd do that. So... how is that explained? Relating to this question is primitive humans, or cavemen. We know they exist from fossils. What do you think about that?

- Regarding the last question, what about the whole young Earth vs. old Earth thing? Any biblical proof for either side?

- The "super natural", particularly creatures. Nessie, for one. I mean, Nessie is speculated to be a dinosaur. I believe in Nessie. Big Foot and Yeti I'm not entirely sure, and the same goes for El Chubacabras. But I am also a firm believer in intelligent aliens, which is perhaps one of my biggest questions regarding Christianity and the Bible. I've heard theories as to aliens being some sort of fallen angel, and the reason for God flooding the Earth (speaking of, why isn't Earth ever capitalized in the Bible?) is because Noah and his family were the only "pure" humans left. Others had mix of alien/fallen angle blood in them, because they would abduct women and deposit their sperm into them. I used to could find where those odd verses that were quoted are, but I've lost them. I never examined the verses fully because the context they were used in were obscure. I've also been told that aliens perhaps exist, but that we do not know because God does not want us to. Aliens do not affect our salvation, so he may have created them but left it out of our Bible.

- Science. Lots of things can be explained through science, and there is tons of proof of a million-billion, maybe even trillion, year old Earth. Dragonflies have been around longer than us, etc. How is that explained when you believe in God and the Bible but these things have legit proof? Another thing is the moon effecting Earth. It moves away 1.5" a year, and eventually will throw the environment terribly off whack. There are so many questions regarding Science and Christianity. I mean, how would one argue the Big Bang Theory? I've been told that God can't (well, He can, but...) just poof stuff into existence, he has to use the laws of science and nature to make things work. And... regarding Pangaea... could the Earth have split so rapidly in the time frame of God's creation? It seems kind of illogical, because many of the continents fit together quite nicely.

- And there is proof, unless my memory is misleading me, that the first humans were in Africa. Is this true regarding the Bible?

- Is there any denomination that is 100% right regarding the Bible? Why so many Christian denominations? Do you think yours is THE ONE denomination? Do you think those of others will go to Hell? I mean, various interpretations I can understand... but around 30,000+ Protestant denominations alone?? Why?

- Animals have done nothing. They fell when humans fell - thus carnivores etc. (since Adam and Eve were vegetarians before the Fall, and while skin was used for clothing, meat wasn't permitted until after the Flood). So, because of humans, animals don't go to heaven? They were perfect before, too. And, if looking at actions alone and not Grace, most animals deserve to go to heaven moreso than most humans do. I just DO NOT see how God cannot allow His creation from Earth into heaven minus humans. What does your denomination feel regarding this?

- Leading into that is this: I don't want my memory of my Earthly existence to be erased. If 2 of my best friends and a family member don't go to heaven, I don't want to forget them for all eternity! The same goes for my sisters (remember: 3 dogs, not humans) - I want to remember them forever and ever! And wives. There will not be marriage in heaven. What's the point of having a wife on Earth then? So you're deep, deep love for her will become equal to everyone else when in Heaven? Well, all of this is depressing. It's basically like saying what you do on Earth is pointless other than helping guide people to the Lord, and praising Him. But even the praise is short, for our life is like the blink of an eye to God. Oh, and as a sidenote, my new body on the new Earth, that's a weird though, isn't it?

- Which Bible version is used and why? And if we have, in the Bible, the "exact Word of God", then why are things so often mistranslated in English? The same can be said for Spanish, Japanese, etc.

- What about the Apocrypha in your church? Why do you believe (insert belief here regarding Apocrypha)?

- The whole yolk thing means a believer and a non believer marrying, right? Not white, black, etc.? Or does your denomination feel differently?

- Regarding that, it says in the Bible that Jesus has hair like wool. Well... that's a black person’s hair description. He'd have to be at least fairly dark coming from the Middle East. Why is he always white in pictures?? (This is just kind of a random question. Hehe.)

- Veganism and Environmentalism. I'm a vegan (no animals or animal byproducts other than honey), and a pretty heavy environmentalist and animal rights activist (hence I don't want a leather Bible). What do you think of Christianity and veganism? Secondly, should I be an environmentalist? It kind of seems useless when there will be a new Earth anyways.

- Global warming. Is it God's plan? How do I argue those who say the hurricanes, etc. are not a sign of the times but from global warming (which it is from global warming, but... maybe a sign of the times also?)?

- Very important here. Does God even HAVE A PLAN? If so, He planned for lots of people to go to Hell eternally and for Adam and Eve to sin. OR, did He just know these things would happen? If so, why didn't He stop them?

- How does your denomination view salvation?

- How you feel of the people who have never even HEARD of Christ?

- Is it true that Satan is still in Heaven and that he won't be cast down until later? I read that in a book.

- Views on life after death? Do Christians go to Heaven immediately, but those who aren't are conscious and in torment in Hades (I think it is called) until there is an actual Hell since Satan isn't ruler of Hell until he is cast down?

- What about those before Christ? How are they in Heaven, or are they? And why wasn't Christianity widespread in BC, or was it even called Christianity?

- I've heard controversy on Jesus' real birthday. Like that it isn't in December, but June. Is this true, and how do we know other than the shepherd tending their flock evidence? If it is, why do we celebrate Dec. 25 as his birthday?

- Holidays. I've heard most of Christian holidays (also the major holidays) are based of paganism and have no real significant dates. This true? Which holidays do you celebrate?

- When is the Sabbath according to your doctrine? I've heard arguments that it isn't on Sunday.

- How could God, an all loving and caring God, command others to kill others through battles, etc.? It even says so in the Bible. I can understand the eternal hell thing, since it is OUR choice and we send ourselves there, but commanding the killing of others? AND THE STONING OF OTHERS in the Old Testament when certain laws were broken?! How friggin' cruel! It's hard to imagine the loving God I had grown up knowing commanding that.

- Is the snake thing in Genesis real or metaphorical?

Greetings,

Those are tough questions for a new believer.

I used to be an atheist and an evolutionist. So I think I have some answers for you...

AnomalousSilence said:
- Dinosaurs. They did exist,
There are indications that the Bible talks about the dinosaurs. The book of Job is believed to have been written about a time before the flood.

In Job 40:15-24, the description of the animal 'Behemoth' seems to be describing a dinosaur.

There are dinosaur graves around the world. This seems to indicate that the rising water from the flood drove them to the higher grounds before the water over took them.

If you read Genesis 1:6-8, it tells that God created firmament (heaven, sky, air) and the sky/air divided waters. There are water above and there are water below the sky. What it is describing is a water canopy surround the earth. When the flood came, all the water fell from the sky and sprong up from the deep. This explains our current atmospheric condition.

The interesting thing is that in this water canopy before the flood, it must have been a high humidity and high temperature environment. The thing about lizards is that they never stop growing in such environment. This might explain the size of these giants. Also many dinosaur models we see today in the mueseums were constructed with a single born. Meaning how they looked is a pure guess.

The cavemen do not necessarily indicate an evolution of mankind but our increased knowledge on how to deal with our environment.

- Regarding the last question, what about the whole young Earth vs. old Earth thing? Any biblical proof for either side?
Read Genesis' creation account. God created the world in six days. He defined the length of a day by light and darkness. Same as today. The fact that God commands us to observe the seventh day shows the length of day is the same as it was during the creation.

The science actually supports an young earth creation. Give you a quick example: God created trees and grass on day 3. Then the sun, moon and stars on day 4. If one day was hundreds of millions of years like some say, then how would the trees and grass survive without sun all those years?

To get yourself well aquinted in this subject, go to http://www.amazingdiscoveries.org/store/product.php?productid=294&cat=3&page=1 and get the Genesis Conflict series videos.

- The "super natural", particularly creatures. Nessie, for one.
The mysterious beasts, big foot... when we actually capture one, I'll start looking into it. Before then, it's just speculation.

About the men fixed with angels...I think you have read too much into what someone made a big deal out of the two bible verses.

Genesis 6
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
...
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

The 'sons of God' in the Bible are the believers. You and I are sons and daughters of God. The daughters of men are the unbelievers. These two verses are actually talking about the believers marrying with the unbelievers. So all their descendents became wicked. The Bible tells us God destroyed the earth because men's wickedness.

Not even a word of it hints they were mixed of men and aliens. That's pure fiction.

Another thing is that the aliens are forbidden to come here. This sinful earth is quentined so sins would not spread to other unfallen worlds.

And if you take the closest star that could have lives in that system, it's about 40 light years away from us.

The UFO, stories of aliens here were made up by the devil to confuse us.

- Science. Lots of things can be explained through science, and there is tons of proof of a million-billion, maybe even trillion, year old Earth.
Science is men's way to try to explain/understand what was already told to us in the Bible. To be a christian, we don't need scientific proof. The definition of faith states us believe in the things unseen.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.

If we must see everything before we can believe it, then how can we ever have faith in God?

Furthermore, the carbon dating system is very flawed. How do we know for sure when they say this or that is milions of year old? Carbon 14 dating depends on that we know how much of carbon 14 existed in the animal before it dies. We can only assume. We don't know for sure. I made a post on the carbon 14 dating flaws here. Search for it.

- And there is proof, unless my memory is misleading me, that the first humans were in Africa. Is this true regarding the Bible?
Probably not true. The Garden of Eden was bordered by Euphrates and Tigris rivers. If God did not re-arranged the landscape during the flood, the first humans were in the middle east.

- Is there any denomination that is 100% right regarding the Bible? Why so many Christian denominations? Do you think yours is THE ONE denomination? Do you think those of others will go to Hell? I mean, various interpretations I can understand... but around 30,000+ Protestant denominations alone?? Why?
Good question: there is one truth:

Ephesians 4:5 One LORD, one faith, one baptism.

So why so many denominations? Because the devil hates the truth. How many denominations for the new Christians? One. The devil puts false doctrines to pollute the pure faith.

How do you find the truth church? Simple pray and ask the holy spirit to guide you. As long as you are sincere, eventually you will find it. Also the bible tells you who the true church is:

Revelation 14:12 Here are the patience of the saints: here they are that keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus.

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Do we believe SDA is the true church? Well, our church is made up of imperfect people. We do not say we are the right church. But we believe we have right message.

What about all these people in other denominations? Will they go to hell? No. Not all of them. Those who sincerely follow God but never had a chance to hear the complete truth will be in heaven with Christ. This is what the bible teaches. But those who heard the truth but chose to reject it will not have part in the eternal life.

- Animals have done nothing. They fell when humans fell - thus carnivores etc.
The animals do not have free will to choose like humans do. They were created for the pleasure and companionship of the men. God will recreate them in the new heaven.

Isaiah 11
6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

Isaiah 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

- Leading into that is this: I don't want my memory of my Earthly existence to be erased.
Well, in the new heaven and new earth, the former pains and sorrows will not be remembered, all tears will be wiped away, Rev 21:4.

Isn't that what we long for? God will remove the memory from our minds so we can be truly happy. How can we truly be happy if we know one of our loved one didn't make it. But they will never be forgotten. Christ loves them so much more than we do. Even the most wicked person lost for eternity will leave a permenant hole in the heart of Jesus.

So that makes our work that much important and urgent. We must preach the message to all our loved one. But remember it's still their choice to accept it. You can not force someone to accept salvation.

- Which Bible version is used and why? And if we have, in the Bible, the "exact Word of God", then why are things so often mistranslated in English? The same can be said for Spanish, Japanese, etc.
All the good questions just keep coming, right? I don't have time to give you all the answers. But look up this link. http://www.chick.com/information/bibleversions/

- What about the Apocrypha in your church? Why do you believe (insert belief here regarding Apocrypha)?
Apocryphal books are not inspired. They were not canonized into the Bible. Here is how they are determined. If the style of writing does not fit the supposed author, if the content contradict other know inspired book, then the books in question is not considered inspired.
- The whole yolk thing means a believer and a non believer marrying, right? Not white, black, etc.? Or does your denomination feel differently?
Yes, two believers marrying makes life alot easier.

- Regarding that, it says in the Bible that Jesus has hair like wool. Well... that's a black person’s hair description. He'd have to be at least fairly dark coming from the Middle East. Why is he always white in pictures?? (This is just kind of a random question. Hehe.)
The description is found in Revelation. His hair is white like wool, not curly. ;) The color white represent Christ's righteousness. Not race. LOL. Race does not matter in term of salvation. LOL

- Veganism and Environmentalism. I'm a vegan (no animals or animal byproducts other than honey),
Good. I'm vegan too. Our church advocates vegetarianism for health reasons.

No, don't be environmentalist. They are tree huggers. But be reverent of God's creation.

- Global warming. Is it God's plan? How do I argue those who say the hurricanes, etc. are not a sign of the times but from global warming (which it is from global warming, but... maybe a sign of the times also?)?
God allows natural disasters to happen as a way to call His people to repentance. But these pains and death are caused by the devil. Read the story of Job. It was the devil that caused all the natural disasters that killed Job's family. God allows it to test His true believers.

- Very important here. Does God even HAVE A PLAN? If so, He planned for lots of people to go to Hell eternally and for Adam and Eve to sin. OR, did He just know these things would happen? If so, why didn't He stop them?

No. God wants all of us to be with Him forever.

Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn
ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Salvation is a gift that God freely give. But He will not force anyone to accept. Because He is perfectly just.
- How does your denomination view salvation?
see above.
- How you feel of the people who have never even HEARD of Christ?
Read Leviticus 3. The blood of Jesus covers the sin of ignorance. If anyone never heard of Jesus, but did the best according to what was revealed to him or her. The person will be redeemed with God.
- Is it true that Satan is still in Heaven and that he won't be cast down until later? I read that in a book.
No. He's confined to this planet.
- Views on life after death? Do Christians go to Heaven immediately, but those who aren't are conscious and in torment in Hades (I think it is called) until there is an actual Hell since Satan isn't ruler of Hell until he is cast down?
No time and room for this. But read it here please. http://www.biblelight.net/index_11.htm

- What about those before Christ? How are they in Heaven, or are they? And why wasn't Christianity widespread in BC, or was it even called Christianity?
They believed the messiah will come to die for their sins. Much like we believe the messiah came to die for ours.

Romans 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

- I've heard controversy on Jesus' real birthday. Like that it isn't in December, but June. Is this true, and how do we know other than the shepherd tending their flock evidence? If it is, why do we celebrate Dec. 25 as his birthday?
This is not a critical issue. I had posted on this. You can search for or go here: http://www.biblelight.net/sukkoth.htm

- Holidays. I've heard most of Christian holidays (also the major holidays) are based of paganism and have no real significant dates. This true? Which holidays do you celebrate?
True. I personally don't celebrate any expect for thanksgiving and new year.

- When is the Sabbath according to your doctrine? I've heard arguments that it isn't on Sunday.
Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. This is defined in the 4th commandment and it has never been changed.
- How could God, an all loving and caring God, command others to kill others through battles, etc.? It even says so in the Bible.
If you take every instance of such event in the bible, all of them had heard the truth but chose not to follow. And they chose to be the enemy of God and His people. For His people sake, God destroyed them. But they had ample opportunity to repent and change. But they did not. God is love and His judgment is just. About those that were stoned...there are only 2 or 3 stoning ever recorded. The wages of sin is death. We all deserve death. But Christ died for us. These people has many chances to ask for forgiveness, but they did not. They served as example to us of what not to do.

- Is the snake thing in Genesis real or metaphorical?
Real. The devil made himself into a snake. He pocessed the snake. The snake was the swiftest creature at that time. It hypnoticed Eve.

Hope you find this useful. The important thing is always pray and follow what the bible reveals to you.

God bless!

I was typing up some responses but I see that OntheDL covered most topics nicely :)

I might post some additional comments to fill in the blanks.

The amazingdiscoveries videos are fantastic. And you might want to listen to the audio of his testimony as well.

God bless
