  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question about the SASE?

Well, I finally got my story done (certainly took long enough...), outside of hopefully coming up with a new title in the next couple of days, so I'm just about ready to mail it off to its first magazine. I've already got it formatted, and I made sure it followed the submission guidelines and all that, but I was wondering about the SASE. When sending in short stories, is the SASE supposed to be a manilla envelope, or a regular letter-type envelope?

No, you'll just have a bulky envelope if they try and return the sase. I did the same thing once with an 18 page story. It was funny but disappointing when I got it back. Funny becuase it was so full I thought it was going to pop open and disappointing because it meant I didn't get published.

Where did you send your story? And are they paying you or are they just giving you contributor's copies? Good luck getting published

OH hope they publish you. I sent them two stories and got rejected both times. I'm hoping this third story they will publish me.

I got one story published in a small magazine called Peeks & Valleys. I got $5.00 not much but it's a start.

My second short story I entered into a contest and still waiting on the results. I hope to hear from them in February or March. The prize is $3000.

Good luck with publication. Let me know if F&SF publishes you.
