  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From days 3-6, everything God created was good. However, on day one, after having separated the light from the darkness, ONLY the light is mentioned as being good. On day two, it is not indicated that anything created was good.

Why is this?

As far as the first day goes, my guess is that only the light is named as good because only the light is created. Darkness was already present in the beginning. (v. 2)

Regarding the second day, I have no idea.

Not many takers. :)

That was my thought on the first day - "darkness" referred to the void that existed before God put light into it.

However, a Jewish professor made this point: in ancient Mesopotamian cultures, both "darkness" and "the deeps" were connected with evil; to them, both were equally unknowable; as far as they knew, the deeps went down as far as the heavens went up. When God doesn't indicate both of these as "good", it is because He didn't create either; he was responsible for creating the good that cut between them. It was essentially an argument against ex nihlo creation.

I'd like to argue that, but for the life of me, I can't think of another explanation, and I cannot seem to find one online. :)

Perhaps because in the air there are fallen angels, (see Ephesians 2:2 and 6:12) and the water is the dwelling place of the demoms. (In Matt. 12:43 there is no rest for demons in waterless places. Also see Matt 8:31)

Maybe this is why for the second day that God said the expanse (the air) or the waters were good.
