Question about Pascha date this year

Hello,

I was curious. Since Passover is March 25th this year, why is Pascha being celebrated so much later than Passover? I have tried googling this but I can't seem to figure out why such a long gap between Passover and Pascha. I always recall a week or two of a gap, not more than a month.

Hmmm, I don't know. I see that Western Easter is a few days before the end of the Passover, which is April 2. I wonder if it has something to do with the equinox and all. Sorry I'm of no help.

Here's a little info from Orthodox Wikipedia:

Pascha normally falls either one or five weeks later than the feast as observed by Christians who follow the Gregorian calendar. However, occasionally the two observances coincide, and on occasion they can be four weeks apart. The reason for the difference is that, though the two calendars use the same underlying formula to determine the festival, they compute from different starting points. The older Julian calendar's solar calendar is 13 days behind the Gregorian's and its lunar calendar is four to five days behind the Gregorian's. The Pascha date this year: May 5, 2013, next year: April 20, 2014, and April 12, 2015, the year after that.

We don't date ours by Passover, Pascha is based on the calculation from the First Ecumenical Council. We base the vernal equinox on the Julian Calendar as well...
