  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Girls, how does your guy feel about touching, holding, or transporting (I won't say "carrying") your purse for whatever reason?

Guys, same question to you, regarding your girl's purse?

I just think my boyfriend is pretty cool about it. He will offer to take my purse if I need to bend down and tie my shoe. And he doesn't let it dangle from one finger as if the things inside are going to jump out onto him, but he actually grasps the strap firmly. He'll also pick it up off the table to hand it to me when we're leaving my house or a restaurant, sometimes, when I don't get to it first. One thing he is great about too is after church, if we're going to stand around and visit for a little outside with people, he'll offer to take my purse and Bible to his car so that I don't have to hold them.

Don't get the wrong idea, though. He's just extremely sweet and eager to help me out however he can, even if it has to do with my purse. I think it's a positive thing, and a bit amusing, but still charming!

It's a big deal to me that he's willing to do these things, but maybe it shouldn't be?

I just know guys, and once had a boyfriend himself, who act(ed) real funny about holding a purse. Perhaps it makes a difference, though, when it's actually your girlfriend's or wife's, and not just a friend's purse. Although my ex would still let it hang by one finger when I would ask him to hold it for a moment, and we dated for 2 years. My current boyfriend would probably carry it around in Wal-mart for me if the need arose for some odd reason.

Just a topic I thought would be interesting to discuss!

i don't even like carrying purses. i'm a pocket girl.. if i really need to carry something around, i'd probably use a small backpack or something.. but i don't think it should be a big deal for a guy to hold anything for his girl. it should be a big deal if a guy isn't considerate enough to do that. just my 2cents.

carry, meh.
I often end up wearing my GF purse, I'll happily wander around with it on my shoulder all day long and have done at times, and *shock horror* in public too.

I'd get my own if it wasn't for the fact there too small to keep anything useful in, messenger bags thats the way to go. can put all the normal junk in, phone money etc, then depending on weather and what im up to coat, shoes, tools and most importantly anything i buy while shopping.

My guy is heaps good to me! If my purse is too heavy, if it starts slipping off my shoulder too often, if it gets in the way of us walking arms-around-each-other at the shops, he takes it from me. He's not scared of picking through the contents either. I have nothing to hide from him, and he doesn't feel like his manliness is threatened by the fact that he's carrying a purse. Like so:

We were playing mini golf that day, and he was able to get a better balance with my handbag than I was, so he just wore it around the whole course.... for 2 games!! Tehehe...

I HATED when I was a little kid and my mom would always say "watch my purse." As a result, I vowed never to own one of those silly things. I have a laptop bag, and my pockets.

(Why is it that women all have purses, but men don't? That's a societal norm I just never understood. Actually, my band teacher in HS said "it takes a real man to use a purse." Heh.)

there actually hasn't been a point that i can remember asking him to hold it. i know he would if i asked him too though.

there have been times we've gone out on day trips i've brought my backpack along with snacks/sunscreen and stuff in it and he knows i have a bad back so he's always sweet enough to carry that for me. Its not the same as a purse i know but he still gets major points for doing that ;)
