Sippin on a Jack and reading the Iching. I liked this line. Thought I would share...

'Continue to purify your thoughts, attitudes, and conduct now. The greatest power in this beneficial time accrues to those who serve the Higher Power in every moment.'

Poured some Dark Horse rye in my coffee this morning - finished all of my chores - getting ready for a wedding now.

Looks to be a nice day for wedding. When I attend these events I'm often asked to pray for the meal, etc. so I've prepare a blessing just in case.

What are you folks up to today?

Been listening to a lot of Sacred Harp this week. I'm trying to nail down a list of my favorites. I wish Calvinist churches still worshipped like this . . .

My top five so far [liable to change]:

1) 178 Africa - William Billings [1770].

2) 107 Russia - Daniel Read [1786].

3) 146 Hallelujah - William Walker [1835].

4) 183 Greenwich - Daniel Read [1785].

5) 59 Holy Manna - William Moore [1825].

Just made a super-run for Reformed books. Got the following:

1. The Works of Jonathan Edwards [Banner of Truth]
  • I like Edwards, and often read one or two of his sermons, but I've never owned a set of all of his works.
2. Institutes of the Christian Religion [John Calvin]
  • My old copy was falling apart.
3. Scottish Theology in Relation to Church History [John MacLeod]
  • Sounded interesting.
I'm still saving up for a copy of Knox's complete works [used online versions up to now, still love hardcover, though], and a copy of Owen's complete works.

I noticed something the other day.

Here are some Reformed churches in the Netherlands:

Here are some Free/Historical Presbyterian churches in Scotland:

And then, on the flip side, here are some Church of Scotland churches:

Here are some old American Reformed/Presbyterian churches:

Here are some modern American Presbyterian churches:

Wow. Beautiful architecture. Thanks for sharing!

I agree. Those pics are awesome.

Primitive Baptist churches seem to keep the RPW, "The light of nature shews that there is a God, who hath lordship and sovereignty over all; is just, good and doth good unto all; and is therefore to be feared, loved, praised, called upon, trusted in, and served, with all the heart and all the soul, and with all the might. But the acceptable way of worshipping the true God, is instituted by himself, and so limited by his own revealed will, that he may not be worshipped according to the imagination and devices of men, nor the suggestions of Satan, under any visible representations, or any other way not prescribed in the Holy Scriptures."
