Reading into theseposts a question sprouted in my head:
"What do the anti-"metal is satanic"-people think about punk?"
Ps: Punk does not equal bands like Blink 182, they just came out with a sound that had no gerne so they called it punk"
Pps: punk equals NoFx, Pennywise, Anti-flag, Bad religion, and punk bands from the 70's.....

I like some punk.

I sort of grew out of punk, but some bands (i.e. Iggy & the Stooges, The Clash, The Ramones, some Sex Pistols, etc.) remain favorites of mine. The Clash is definitely one of my favorite bands of all time.

I'm not a big fan of NoFx or Anti-Flag mostly because they both come off as immature and naive. Seriously, the fact that they want to be lumped in with smart political bands like the Clash and then write lyrics as juvenile as "**** the flag and **** you too" is a bit sickening, in my opinion.

I like some punk and I still have the NY Dolls, Voidoids, Ramones, Clash and some other stuff safely stored away. (no record player anymore) I grew up on hardcore.. Minor Threat, MDC, Reagan Youth, Dead Kennedy's,...can't say I follow the current hardcore scenes.

U r giving titles of the first songsof antiflag, but their newer word is much better and more mature, like O.I.L. and g.a.t.t.

certain punk is pretty good, though the closest thing to punk i listen to on a regular basis is the Offspring. I also have a taste for The Misfits (the Danzig and Doyle days though), The Clash and The Casualties. Oh, and the Distillers if they can be considered punk.

Anyway, i sort of have no taste for genres that revolve around lyrics, simply because i've never been one to be interested in them, i mean music is music, music is not 'words' so i don't judge a band or song because of the lyrical content (though the typical nu-metal lyrics annoy me). Since punk and rap revolve around the lyrics rather than the musical technicality, well, let's just say i'd listen to metal over them most times.

punk is alright. i like some of the mentioned here, ie The Sex Pistols, The Ramones. i don't mind some older Green Day but in regards to the actual punk scene, and the whole of punk music, i could really careless about. i used to listen to some hardcore bands such as Strongarm, No Innocent Victim, Focal Point, Shai Halud but i don't anymore.

plus if there is a genre of music called post-punk, then i guess punk is actually dead after all. (sorry bad joke.)

Are you insane? That stuff is not punk rock, it's pure crap. Some good posts on here regarding the Ramones, Sex Pistols, X, etc., though. Keep 'em comin' people.

P.S. The Clash were hands down the greatest band (of any genre) to ever walk the face of the planet, and London Calling remains the greatest piece of music ever committed to record.

Oh that makes me laugh. And someone just mentioned the New York Dolls too. Anyways... I just bought my kid a Ramones t-shirt today. Poor thing is subjected to Mommies music all the time. He has pretty good taste I must say. How many 6 year olds go around the house singing " ba ba ba-ba.... I wanna be sedated".

Punk is ok. Gets borning rather quickly. The Clash, The Jam, (old) Bad Religion, Descendents, Sex Pistols...they are all good.

Nofx, Pennywise and Anti-Flag arent punk. They are all pretty crap bands. Nofx are a joke. Punk bands arent meant to be jokes.
The Ramones will always be my favorites.

Most of what I like is modern adaptations of punk rock - like the punkier side of indie rock.
