Hear ye, hear ye, all ye punk/ska/oi lovers! Which bands do you like? What kind of punk?

For me, I tend to like bands that are a bit more melodic, and a bit more into social change rather than anarchy or ... watever else. SoCal punk, like Bad Religion or Pennywise or NOFX. Not NorCal or UK punk, like the Sex Pistols. I also like some east coast punk as well, like Anti-Flag. No... bands like... who are those folks... Simple Plan or the Ataris or Blink 182 do not do it for me.

As for Christian punk, there's only Dogwood that does a really good job of singing a good message (they get extremely harsh sometimes), and still following the style of hardcore punk. Relient K is good musically, but their message sometimes gets watered down a bit.

Old school Punk and Post-punk here. The Clash always first and foremost, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, The Jam. Although I do like the somewhat later West Coasts bands like X, Social Distortion and the incomparable Dead Kennedys - especially "Holiday In Cambodia". Good stuff!

Yeah. can't qupte too many DK songs (while good). I don't like the Dropkick Murphys. Not sure why.

Skip-Lively: Selectively? Care to explain? Sure they swear a bit more than I like, and they talk about stuff which doesn't go well with my political/religious views... Same with you? or different reasons?

Nobody else heard of Dogwood?

No...I just don't like all of their songs. Musically. They're okay, but some of their songs just don't appeal. I don't like the sound. Other songs are quite good. It just depends. As it is, I dislike more of their music than I like certain songs. Thus the selectively.

And, nope, never heard of Dogwood. What are they like?

Anyone know the Dropkick Murphys? Good group. As for mentioned bands...most of Bad Religion I like, but don't care for the Ataris. Pennywise is decent. Inzyders are okay, but fairly repetative. Good in small doses. Anti-flag I like selectively.
I saw Dropkick Murphys at Deep Elum a couple of years ago. Not a bad concert.

Dogwood? The tone of their voice and instrumentals sounds more like east-coast punk (Boston and Pittsburgh), so dropkick murphys-ish, but much more melodic and less shouting and growling. They're pretty unique. Most Christian punk bands I've come across follow SoCal-style punk (and so do most poser bands and emo bands).

From the same stable as Fugazi no? I've heard some of their stuff and thought it was pretty good, need to try and get my hands on more of it.
