Ok, me and a friend at college had a discussion about unborn babies and the going to hell/heaven thing.

He reasons that, if the mother is not a christian, the child will also go to hell.(if the mother dies before the baby was born and the baby shares the same fate) because somewhere in the bible it says, your family will be punished by the fourth generation? or something in that line, not sure, since he tends to talk a lot of <censored>, so I rarely take what he says to seriously.

but the main question I want to ask is..

Does God punish children for their parents wrong doing/sins?

No.

"The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself." Ezekiel 18:20

The Bible talks about suffering consequences of the father's sin. The sin itself is not imputed to the generations afterward.

Tell your friend to reread the Bible and take his >censored< someplace else!:)

I have discussed this with friends and we came to the conclusion that God would not send an unborn child to Hell because of the parents. Not that I claim to know what God would do but it strikes me that He would hardly condemn an unborn child who has no say in its fate to eternal damnation because of someone else's choice.

Hi, no He doesn't.

From my understanding the jist is we often learn sin from our parents generally; some sins I mean. All are sinners, so I'm not saying parents are bad or anything.

I'm aware the text on it means more than that; but in essence, is main idea in my opinion.

God does not punish children. We can hardly blame HIM for the actions of crack-parents, or alcoholics, or those who cannot control their lusts.

It is such sins that follow children on down to many generations; burdens they have to bear because of their parents.

As for going to hell? Is anyone here afraid of going to hell?

Dear whom it may concern. I am getting quite concerned to read in nearly every thread, just how quickly and matter of fact, men and women point out that for so very many reasons, we will go to hell. Hell is Satan`s domain, and Satan`s followers will go there for sure. God is Love, God is patient, God can see our hearts, God will know every thought we think, and every wish we have. We are given years to learn to know God, to love God and choose our God-given free will, to return to our Heavenly Father, or go our own way. God came to Earth in Man, Jesus God-Son, born of the Holy Spirit of God and the chosen Virgin Mary, He lived amongst us for ca. 30 years, and showed us God how He really is. Jesus told us what to do, to Repent, to exchange our selfish and unloving character, into loving God with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds. God made us in His image, nothing else in this Universe is like us. We also have to learn to love others, as we love ourselves, unselfishly and with no strings attached. Heaven is our original home, and God is waiting for Jesus to lead us home, as the loving children of a loving Heavenly Father. Those of us who do not want to return to God, because they are stubborn, or do prefer to listen tountruths, spread about by unbelievers for their own reasons, those of us will end in Outer Darkness, without God`s Love or Light. Hell is for people without love, who reject everything God stands for, who accept Satan who is without love, in any way whatsoever. I say this humbly and with love. Greetings from Emmy, sister in Christ.

If you're repulsed by the idea of eternal punishment, then annihilationism may suit you. According to this doctrine, babies or otherwise are not punished in hell, but simply die without an afterlife.
