Ancient Faith Radio plays mostly licenced music, they have to pay a fee themselves to play it. Even if you buy a CD from them you can't copy and redistribute it in any form, even for free which is what I'll be doing by putting it on a DVD as background music. That's why I need music that is in the public domain. It's not easy to find because while the music itself, like the hymns of the Divine Liturgy, may be public domain, the recorded music by each artist is not. I have a few uncopyrighted recordings, and some more that may be, but I'm trying to find recordings in different languages.

Is this for the DVD you are doing for your Taiwanese church? I doubt you will be able to find any true public domain music as the only recorded PD music generally was done prior to around 1930. Written music from before that time is PD, but once you sing it and record it the recording itself becomes copyrightable.

If you find a monastery or choir that produces music you may be able to contact them and explain your purpose. They might be willing to waive copyright fees (presuming the DVD is a non-profit effort).

Yeah, I was afraid of that, I haven't been able to figure out the licencing laws very well, and I'm not sure how they apply in Taiwan either. thanks,

I'd love to get files of singing in English!

(Bear in mind that amazon is not an option for me, and paying for anything in the states is horrendously difficult, and having it shipped only slightly less so. If anything is worth real money, the Russian postal system has a reputation for 'losing' stuff.)

orthotracts.org has some mp3s you can download. I'm not sure of the web site but the Holy Trinity Orthodox cathedral in California has recordings from Holy Week in MP3 format also. And if you get an audio recording program like mymp3 you can record audio from Ancient Faith Radio.
