• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

psyching yourself out?

Do you guys ever struggle with psyching yourself out? Let's say you know you love your girlfriend, but because of disruptive mood swings, causing you to believe in the mood and not in the truth of the matter, you begin to psyche yourself out of what you know to be true, like questioning whether you love your girlfriend, whether you even have the capacity to love anybody, etc..?

I second guess myself a lot, wondering what is real and what is not. But if you DO what is right, even if you don't FEEL right, the feelings will come later. A bit like method acting.

There are primal parts of all of us that we cannot deny. The survival instinct. The need for companionship. We need to eat, drinks, sleep, mate. What makes us human is on top of all that. When you question "do you love this person", you might be looking at the primal need to mate or to have companionship as purely for "self". Of course we all have those needs. What makes you love *this* woman and not another, is your higher reasoning. She is kind to you, or you agree on your life-choices, or your family and friends approve of her. That's your intellect talking. The arguments are quite reasonable and valid. The next (bipolar) level above that is where flawed (questioning) thinking makes us doubt the lower levels.

However, the base levels are more stable, and higher levels build upon them. If your core beliefs and human instincts are sound, and your mid-level intellect is sound, then if there is a flaw in a high level, it cannot put cracks in a low level, when the mid levels are solid.

Actually, I'm making a mess. Google Maslow's Heirarchy. I've been awake for 24 hours. I have no idea what I'm saying.

When I'm off the fish oil and vitamin B for very long I go back to that kind of insanity. Man, it can do a real number on ya. It messes with more than what you mention.

I have started to learn not to be around others when I realize I'm getting that way, until I work through it. Otherwise, I might verbally say something that would hurt someone.
