If you are a Christian, what attracts you about this? Were you involved with this prior to your becoming saved?

That is the first question I'd have for you. I think a lot of times when people are asking "is ___ wrong?" is because God is trying to show you something or get your attention so you can do something about it. We should treasure having a sensitive conscience.

I used to "dabble" in the occult though on a marginal level. Some people are in it deep too. ex. only God knows the future, yet how many people are looking into astrology, horoscopes for daily "guidance"?

There are places in the bible where any kind of psychic anything is evil and wrong and should not be sought after. King Saul when he sinned he was no longer relying on God, so he sought a witch of Endor for direction. Question is , who are we relying on? Just some thoughts here.

I was interested and taking part long before, I seem to have a natural ability for it anyway, sometimes I can just think thoughts like I want friend x to come online and they do, or if I'm shopping by myself I'll think maybe friend x is around the corner and they are....I can't help it, I just seem to give off and pick up telepathic signals anyway.

I'm not into astrology or horoscopes, and I do want to be Christian, but this is one thing I can't give up, it was there before I wanted to be a true Christinan, back when I was an atheist years ago. I'm not using it for evil purposes so is it really that sinful? Especially seeing as some very experianced psychics who can see into the future (not something I've looked at before) help out with special cases when children go missing etc. with the police?

And are there any quotes to support this idea of sin?

This is how I see it..............................
When we read our horoscope............what power are we beleiving in? Is it Gods power? Or Satans power of deception?

I don't know a whole lot but I have heard that a person can be born a prophet........they have the gift.

If I had the gift I would focus on God and listen to his voice. I would tell others what Jesus wants me to tell them.

But I don't know a whole lot.
A pyschic is not relying on Jesus but more of a positive spiritual force verses a negative spiritual force. But they are deceived.........
This is what I beleive.

Read up on what the gifts of the Holy Spirit are and read up on the offices..........you just might be a prophet:)

Odd question but I have to know!
Why not submit it completely to God - offer it to Him with an open hand. Let Him remove it from you if that is His will. If Jesus wants you to have abilities like these, He will give them to you through the Holy Spirit. And you'll know it's a gift from God, not something you were born with or whatever.

I've known people with these "powers" and I haven't a postitive thing to say about any of it. The occult isn't a door that you can just crack open and expect to keep it only cracked open.

Yes it is sinful.
Sin is that which separates us from God and the idea of “psychic” power takes people away from the truth.
God’s power and existence is true. You can see it everywhere. Psychic’s and such are absolutely false. They don’t exist, they have never existed and they never will.
Mysticism has long been a part of cultures and unfortunately some people mix that sort of thinking with Christian religion, but that was and never will be Gods plan for your life.
You are a real person living in a real world created by a real God. Our belief in God should reflect the same. If your belief in God is anything like a belief in psychics or mysticism then you may want to revisit your Christianity.

I would be very cautious. The Bible is our only sure guide to living life after the Spirit of God. This is why it is ESSENTIAL that you "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." (2nd Timothy 2:15)

The Bible teaches that sorcery, witchcraft, necromancy (speaking to the dead), and other such use of spiritual power are evil. The Holy Spirit does give us words of knowledge, words of wisdom, and prophecy... all of which could be misunderstood by us if we have similar experiences before we were saved.

Seek council from your parents and/or your pastor on these things, and please make sure that you are asking for the Holy Spirit to fill you in the name of Jesus Christ, and He will give you wisdom and guidance that none of us could ever match!

God bless you!!!

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you

I am going to give you advice from a very personal level because I too once struggled with this. I could also predict, hear, see and experience things that were on a supernatural level. For years I dabbled in witchcraft and worked as a well known "psychic" online. It wasn't until my heart became extremely convicted through the Holy Spirit that I was in the wrong. You see sister, we can't see what's going on in the spiritual realm. Anything, including any gift, that does not give God the glory (witchcraft claims there are guides giving this information) is sinful and is NOT something you want to be involved in. It may seem somewhat harmless to dabble in this now, but what you can't see are the doors that are being opened up in to your life for evil to dwell. I won't get in to this, but I promise you...it is important that you stay FAR away from anything claiming to be "psychic," etc. Ask God to take away your temptation and be faithful in asking for His strength to turn away from temptation. He WILL do this for you.

You need to be praying about this. You need to come before the Lord and talk to Him about why you enjoy this. Ask Him to take away anything that is evil and purify you with His Holy Spirit that you might be able to hear Him and be anointed with HIS gift in this area. I can tell you from experience that the things we find the most natural to do (in our case, this particular area), is what God will use you in. He has called me to be a prophetess for His kingdom, and I'd much rather be doing His will than anything the world has to offer. As Christians, we should not be telling anyone their future or anything about themselves unless we are prompted to do so by the Holy Spirit Himself. You will know the difference in your heart. Believe me. You just need to be in your Bible and pray pray pray about what God would have you do in this situation. If you are faithful to Him, He will be faithful to you in answering the questions of your heart.

Know too that the gift of prophecy is not something to be taken lightly. You are dealing with the lives of fellow Christians and the matters that they hold close to their hearts. It takes years of following God's lead in how to speak, when to speak, and when to talk with someone about what you've been led to say. The only true and Christian way to develop this gift is to pray how God would have you use it, stay in His Word, and then wait for His timing on how to deliver it.

God bless you, sister. I hope this helps!

Hi,
You can recognize what are called "psychic"-activities in 2 groups:
Satan's evil-dangerous occult; but also God's good-beneficial blessings.

Satan's activities will subject you to influence of other-souls.
So you want to avoid, & exercise discerning-cautions about:
Amulets: an ornament, gem, scroll or the like, worn as a charm, & often inscribed with magical incantations.
Apparitions: Souls of passed-on people appearing in a form which can be seen. (ghosts, poltergeists)
Astrology: the study of Moon, Sun, and other planetary-positions in the belief that their motions affect human beings.
Augur: to predict from an omen
Auras: a distinctive but intangible quality surrounding any life-form. (This is an iffy, because God created all life-forms from "energy" scientifically observed in EEG's, EKG's, as well as the Aura/energy exterior to all humans, animals or plants. But practices built on "manipulating" said energy, are capable of leading you further astray - so avoid those practices too)
Acupuncture: an alternative-medical treatment of pain or disease by inserting Needle-tips along meridian-nerve endings into the skin. Question: when the pain returns, then what? - Isn't it
better to uncover the underlying cause of the pains, and answer/Heal that)
Birth-signs, and stones -
Black-arts : in addition to those listed here
cards, specifically Tarot: a set of cards used in "fortune-Telling", favored by many "new-agers".
Calling Evil spirits: Who, in their right mind, would think to do a thing like that; but people do.
Charms, like for "good-luck": Many kids think that's "just play"; but is it? And what powers are you toying with, you have no way of knowing safely.
13. Curses: Now you might say: "I'd never do a bad-thing like that to any!body". But realize, *every one of your own thoughts* -is powerful: power-to-
hurt~wound~harm, or power-to-help-bless-heal.
Carefully :) consider the awesome power of your thoughts, precious child-of-God.

Communicating with (dead) passed-on people, (also called channeling or conjuration) either for comfort, or as a soul-guide. The problem here, again, is that the recipient/you are risking a clever/evil soul whose intent is to possess/control your own body for its evil purposes.
Ankh, or crux ansanta:
a handle-shaped cross, made from a sandal & strap, used in witchcraft.
Crystal balls: a glass or crystal globe used in crystal gazing by fortunetellers.
"The devil made me do it": mentioned here only as another example of how easy evil-spirits can enter/influence a person. And yes, people get away with all sorts of crimes-against-humanity, using that excuse in Courts-of-law unfortunately - like: "That voice told me..., or I saw this vision where I was told by god to start a new church...", & on it goes. Stay-away from such people & their practices.
Divining: search by divining, as if with a rod. (There are other meanings of
divining which are safe, but you may not know the difference)
Dominance: whether by a country's King/President/Ruler, or a Married-person, or a Parent wanting to 'break your soul/mind/body, and dominate it'. Each of us is here to learn to control our *own*-self, not that of another - in unrighteous dominion.
Magic: Lotsa people claim that "white, or grey/neutral" magic is just fine; and they wouln't think of using black-magic. That misses the point: They all use the same-dangerously-risky process; so just avoid that altogether.
M
ediums: in this context (yes, there are other useful definitions of this word, as you know), it's a person who serves as an intermediary between the living and the dead.
Omens
: something that is considered to be a sign of a future event taking place, and maybe how. Some people are superstitious in believing that - a broken mirror is an omen of bad luck. or the same thing with a cat walking across a crack in front of you.-
Palm-reading: purpurting to tell you what the creases/lines in a hand mean as far as personality-weaknesses/strengths, plus your fate. And people not only pay money for that, but trust that to be factual truth. (Similar to Medicine, but at least with that, you can possibly get assisted with First-aid in case of accidental-injuries, or after intentional harm.) The inherent dangers in both are: IF a person beleives (a hypnotic- advice of "I have been given less than a month to live"; then that person's mind will ensure that the person DIES right on "schedule", to please the Authority who told them that.

How much better! to Guide people to *LIVE the Abundance :) God created each of us for...*

Ouija (talking) Board : where Spirits (sometimes the dead) give answers, and cause (or actually do) things & events to happen, that can be sensed in more than our common 6 senses. Obviously, what is not usually/mortally-experienced can cause great damage.
Seance: (see #21- mediums) that's what their "session" is called. Don't go anywhere near them.
Self-realization:
Well, empowering yourself as God's beloved :) child is one thing, but some people carry that to extremes where pretty soon, they feel they have no-need for God, let alone as a Savior! So, alota "new-agey" stuff is dangerous.
26. Witchcraft: again, working spells often with ghosts, etc.

Yoga: Using that as Beneficial-stretching exercises for maintaining physical-flexibility is just wonderful; but many use it with meditation to "Still, & Empty the mind". The problem is the countless unbodied-spirits who have no mind to use, but desperately want one, are then Free to inhabit & set-up house, in that "Still, & Empty mind". Now, you wouldn't want that for your own mind, right?

So, I agree with alot of what previous posters adviced you on, especially: Accept what Jesus, as the Christ, did/does for you. And Talk with Jesus :) often in each day. This same God designed/created you as a Soul-Mind-Body unit, and as such blessed you so many wonderful *mind*-abilities, some of which you have already experienced. And they are Good as you use them for *Praising and Honoring God*. Choose living like this...

Now, what about
God's good-beneficial blessings, you can use for helping yourself, and others, to Stay-near God :), as your Creator, Savior, Resurrector, Teacher and Best-friend!
Trances: Each of us lives out our life, in one trance-state or another, moment-to-moment. For instance, in the blink/instant you choose remembering a Happy-memory, you may be half-way around the world from where this took place, but you can experience it just as if it was happining all over again (while yet you're doing something different presently). So, actually you're engaging 2 trance-states together. This serves as an example of a good-trance; do you understand? :)

There are many God-blest "mind-abilities/skills" (like clair-audience/voyance, esp, psycho-kenesis, hypnosis, etc,) you can learn more about, safely. Your challenge is finding Christians who will keep you *safe as God's child*; and that's not as easy as it may seem, even in a group like here where you asked your important question.

I wish you Well, and again *please, stay-safe with our Savior*

I don't mean to sound rude but I just wanted to point out that I'm not involved with anything wicca/witchcraft and never have.

Thanks for the replies.

I've read the quotes and that, but I'm still struggaling to understand exactly why it is viewed as sinful. I know the bible says so, but who am I harming by performing telepathy or viewing auras?

Very confused..

And if it is sinful doesn't that mean that I have to make the choice between both of my beliefs?????

If this is a gift from God than no, it's not sinful.
However, if it's from Satan, it is.
You should pray to God and ask him that if it's from him to please help you better understand it and use it for his benefit.
However, if it's from Satan, you need to ask God to take it away.
It won't be your choice. If you ask God, he'll either stengthen it, or take it away all together.

We all have gifts. This may be your gift from God. But you have to make sure. Pray, and than listen for God's answer.

It is sinful because the practice of such things takes you away from Gods truth, and when you are separated from God then that is sin. Don’t look at sin so much as rule breaking, rather look at sin as a wedge between you and God.

Who are you hurting? Well, you for one, but it is possible that you could be hurting others depending on where you go with such thoughts.

In the end, we all have to choose with our beliefs, our sin and God. Many Christians start out giving only a piece of their hearts to Christ and they grow from there. Eventually God takes over where you let him, but those areas where you do not let God or where you do not trust God will drive a wedge of sin between you and God. You will find yourself making many choices between God and that which you feel compelled to do, think or otherwise believe.
