  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In relating to this, what does is feel like when God puts a desire from Him in Your heart? Is it ever at war with yourself, or will the flesh and spirit both be at peace? Also, what kind of confirmations does one get, if any? Testimonies in regarding to this are very welcome! :)
You're going to get various answers here because we're always in battle with our "flesh" even as we try to master it by the Holy Spirit.

This will almost always depend on where we are spiritually.

*Sometimes we hear the Spirit clearly.

*Sometimes we're not clear if it the Spirit or our fleshly desires.

*Sometimes we delude ourselves to thinking the Spirit is leading us.

Get ready for some varied responses.

The Battle is usually God saying, "Feel my love for ..., I want you to ..... for them." We don't want to give up our life.

I once was in a rough situation. I am white and most around me were black. Two started to get in a fight. I got between and convinced them to make peace, not without some chancy moments. Later, some black friends told me I was a fool for what I did.

A week later, I was witnessing to another black man. He looked at me in scorn. He said, "You are prejudiced. If two white men fought, you would break them up. If one white and one black fought, you would intervene to help the white. You wouldn't lift a finger to help." As I looked at him considering my response, my black friends chimed in, "He did just that last week. Them man was startled into silence. I had some of my most effective ministry among that group, because I felt God's love, and gave up my self interest. Many of these men were later tried for major crimes.

Recently I have often had this very same debate with myself. There are desires in my heart that I am praying for. I feel strongly in my heart that it is in my best interest. However I sometimes wonder if it is just really what I want as opposed to what He wants for me. Then I sometimes wonder if that really matters. For instance, Mark 11:24 states "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." Also, Matthew 7:7 says, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

Is it wrong to think that based on the two verses above, in addition to Psalm 37:4, that as long as we have faith in God, He will answer our prayers - even if it is based on our own desires? Or that maybe as long as we believe in and have faith in Him, His will is to answer the desires that we have?

I am hoping this bump in the thread will renew conversation on this topic.
