  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello. I have an ongoing disscusion in the Catholic forum that was sugested i asked here aswell.

At the moment i am protostant but one thing that always plays on my mind is what are the differences between these two faith comunities? wWhat are the reasons for Protostants to leave the early Catholic church? And how does it make protostants the "right" church?

Any of your ideas are greatfuly taken in.

i am struggling to convince my self that the protestant church is the right one. i was also hoping to gather ideas from fellow protestants that leads to the big question

Up to the point of salvation we stand united with our Catholic brethren.

They have to repent and believe, so do we.

It is only after the point of salvation that most Protestant groups divide with them.

On the matters of baptism, the Lord's Supper, Justification, works, veneration of saints and relics, praying to dead saints, purgatory, Early Church Fathers verses scripture, the Five Sola's (Sola scriptura, Sola Christo, Sola Fide, Sola Gratia Sola Deo Gloria) etc.

We stand united with our Catholic brethren up to the point of salvation, it is only then that we separate on matters of doctrine.

God Bless

Till all are one.

Here are just 10 things wrong with Roman Catholicism.

1. They teach an unbiblical works based righteousness salvation through sacraments.
2. They teach you cannot know for sure you are going to be ultimately saved.
3. They teach that their Church is the only true Church and outside of it is no salvation.
4. They unbiblically teach that we should pray to God through the dead, especially through Mary, this worship of creatures is idolatry.
5. They place priests in between people and Christ.
6. They teach a horrific doctrine of transubstantiation where they literally claim that the bread and wine become the flesh and blood of Christ.
7. They teach the pope is infallible.
8. They teach their denomination is infallible.
9. They place themselves above scripture.
10. They teach an unbiblical doctrine of purgatory.

In Contrast, a biblical local Church does the following five things:

1. Is headed by God, not a pope.
2. Follows the written word of God.
3. Worships God alone.
4. Teaches salvation by faith in Christ alone.
5. Teaches that one should have a personal relationship with Christ and needs no intercessor.

It is a matter of faith, does one have more faith in the traditions and laws of the celibate men of the Roman Catholic Church, or do they have more faith in God himself to guide and direct them through his word and prayer?

Thankyou DeaconDean iv been wanting to hear that for a while Taking on board what you said DD2008 also. if the only thing that stands between us and Catholics is anything but salvation then why would some from one Faith claim that the others are doomed for hell?
since we either end up in Heaven or hell then why do we part unstead of unite to strengthen us?

:wave:As a Catholic (who used to be Protestant), I would just like to make a suggestion, if that's alright.. I suggest learning about Catholicism from Catholics, and learning about Protestantism from Protestants. There are many misconceptions possibly on both sides. I was always taught that Catholics worship Mary, etc, and agreed with it until I actually started talking to Catholics about what they believe. I also recommend praying and seeking God's will first, in an open and unbiased way :)

God bless

I am a Baptist, who grew up Baptist, was raised by a Baptist pastor, made the mistake of joining the RCC for a few years, and now I'm back to reality.

If you want to know what really goes on in the RCC, just ask. I'll help you any way I can. I can show you many little contradictions in their system and why it can't be correct.

The problem is that my Protestant brothers and sisters in Christ are divided into thousands of different churches that you will find it impossible to get any authoritative answer to the big question . The Bible is interpreted by them in so numerous and diverse ways .

Roman Catholics are the same. They have many divisions, their priests disagree about everything and only a few actually believe what their church tells them to believe.

Not true.. the Church teachings are consistent, even if not all priests teach them right. But it's easy to find out what the Church teaches, in the Catechism.

Protestantism is different because different Protestant churches teach different things.

Sister, this poster started a thread in OBOB to discuss the same topic. Please argue your points there. Thanks and blessings.

The original thread was actually started in OBOB. This thread and the one in STR came about as a suggestion in the OBOB thread in much the same way as what you are suggesting here.
