Why atheist come to christian sites is beyod me.

Well, that's an interesting point. I can only speak for myself. I came here as a Christian, but there were many doctrines that were at odds with my knowledge and beliefs. Instead, I search for spiritual understanding and look at all paradigms - not just Christian. And I remain here because I enjoy the topics discussed.

But all this is off-topic.

The data is tough to evaluate with any real certainty, but a 2013 study from our government's Center for Disease Control stated:

“almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year.”

Also, in the USA 2/3 of deaths from firearms each year are suicides, which would be over 40,000 in 2018, according to your figures. While some people insist that restricting access to guns would reduce these suicides, that seems highly speculative, considering that Japan (for example) has very strict gun regulation, and also has a higher suicide rate than the USA.

I think cultural differences play an important role in this issue. The fact that our countries share a common language (sort of) does not mean they have identical cultures.

Well - aside from the conspiracy you like - His prosecution included eyewitnesses, and testimony from forensic scientists, hundreds of exhibits, his initial confession, police reports, psychologist reports, photographic evidence - and yes - it amounted to hundreds. As per the Australian system of justice, he was given a trial and found guilty.

Im not arguing - Fact is he was found guilty according to the Australian system of justice.

That you seek some other type of theory to justify gun ownership, well that doesn't deny the facts of the matter as per the records of justice.

SELF DEFENCE IS GOD ORDAINED!

All Im saying is that your view is a fringe view and OVERWHELMINGLY is NOT supported by Australians, Christian or not.

Changed your profile now have you to cover your tracks You have gone from LYING ATHEIST to honest SEEKER now have you!!.

Hmm, I think you're stepping outside of CF rules and certainly away from the OP, don't you agree??

You were an Atheist and MARRIED, now your a SEEKER, and SINGLE??
Interesting! O'h yes and you accuse me of lying?

Hmm I think you are inventing things - care to show where it says I was married OR that I wasn't Christian when I came here?

Look you are getting angry and losing your cool so starting to go down a route that's dishonourable. It's not doing you any favours and will just end up with you getting reported so - calm down - walk away - take a breath and construct a logical case for your position - NOT this tactic - It isn't of good character.

Yes a jury of his peers weighed all the evidence and found him guilty.

I should also add that the Prime Minister's gun laws have been very successful, and well supported in Australia.

Hmmmm.... well, I think that performance summarises everything.

Australians do worry about the fringe of Australians that are anti-government types who want open access to all grades of firearms.

It's not going to happen, and we have good cause for holding to that view.

And reading through these, I have to wonder how many of them never would have happened if tighter gun laws had prevented them from getting guns.

And in the same time, how many people were killed from gun violence because the good guy with the gun wasn't there?

I don't understand how you can see all this gun violence and decide the best way to combat it is with EASIER access to guns.

And do you think it's a good idea to rely on people who aren't trained to deal with that kind of situation? One of the people you cite as a GGWAG was a woman who started screaming, closed her eyes and started shooting blindly until the gun was empty. Luckily there were only two shots fired by her before she ran out. How easy would it be for a situation like that to turn tragic and have innocent bystanders shot and killed because the GGWAG freaked out and panicked?

If you want to talk about decades, the NRA has about 10,000 instances on file.
And yes, @Zoli, they are all referenced with news-media sources.

I'll take my "fantasies" over your "facts" any day...

How about these facts? Gun Violence Archive How many shootings listed on that website had a GGWAG to stop them? Only a tiny fraction, I bet.

Ha,aaaa, that's a good one, An Aussie., Atheist quoting Scripture????

What, you think it's gonna burn my fingers to type it or something?

I can quote scriptures till the cows come home.

Besides, there's no such thing as an atheist according to the Bible.

Yeah, but the Bible also says unicorns are real, so....

Nice sales pitch.

So you gonna hold the Old Testament above the words of Jesus, are you?

People have made similar arguments about the Kennedy assassination. Still a conspiracy theory.

What about the one you atheists believe in? (The life, words, and miracles of Jesus were all lies)?

Yeah, it's all a conspiracy, what with the lack of real-world evidence and all that, as well as the numerous contradictions in the Bible and the numerous passages in the Bible that don't match up to the real world!

No Martin was convicted in a court of law following extensive witness testimonies and extensive forensic evidence including him carrying the weapon and ammo that killed and injured so many, gun powder on his hands....

. THATS NOT TRUE, THATS WHAT THE PUBLIC WERE TOLD.

Please provide your evidence to show that he was not found guilty in a court of law, that there was no extensive witness testimonies, no extensive forensic testing, etc.

If you take a look at Kylie's post (#55) which I was replying to, you will see that her entire post emphasizes that the "good guy with a gun" in the USA is a fantasy. I showed that it is real.

Her post doesn't say anything about Australia.

To be fair, I doubt the "good guy with a gun" thing works in Australia either.

But hey, if you got something to show that it does work here in the merry old land of Oz, you go right ahead and put it up for all of us to see, mkay?

Apologies. I just feel the need to point out hypocrisy when I see it.

So you think that honest disbelief is a conspiracy theory?

Oh wait, do you think I'm playing a part in a conspiracy by saying that I honestly just don't believe? Do you think that I secretly do believe, but someone's paid me off to keep up the charade?
