Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It doesn't say how old he was when he slept with the 16 year old, depending on state laws, consent could be an issue in that case because in many states 16 year olds are able to consent with someone 4 years (or less) older than them.

I think we fall far short of what we ought to be doing, as a generalization, in dealing with female sexuality. A girl entering puberty will, just like a boy, feel the stirrings of desire, and a loving parent with a healthy relationship with her will be able to understand those feelings and guide her in how to keep chaste while accepting it as one of God's gifts to her, to live out a healthy womanhood when she matures. Instead, we seem to refuse to acknowledge that girls are sexual creatures at all, and as a result give no guidance to them in self-control, the means of managing their romances so as to grow in grace as they grow up, and then wonder why they buy into the pervasive sexuality of culture, which is simply speaking to their own God-given sexuality.

It's truly disturbing to me why we take this ostrich attitude.

Girls or boys, we need to teach reasons for chastity, but with a loving and caring fashion, not a condemning or judgmental fashion. We need to stress why it is a good idea, on a both religous and practiical basis. It's sad that things are the way they are, but it's not to late.

Here's a novel idea -- why don't we accept that sexuality, in and of itself, is a beautiful and wonderful thing, and stop trying to suppress it in our children? Certainly, we should teach them safety techniques. But as long as they are safe, the rules and restrictions that religion places on sexuality are (IMHO) more likely to produce harmful neuroses and an irrational fear of healthy sex, than to help our children in any way.

What is truly disturbing to me is that people view sexuality as a thing that needs to be "controlled" and regulated.

That is a truely frightening statement. Here's a novel idea..let children be children, they are forced to grow up too soon as it is.

Nobody said anything about forcing people to grow up too soon. If a 17 year old person wants to have sex, knows how to do it safely, and has a partner that with the same desires and understands, what is the harm?

Hmm, I don't recall that article talking about any girls being *forced* to express their sexuality like this. Seems like it was *their* decision, their conscious choice to naturally act out their exploration of sexuality. So perhaps your statement should have been:

"...force children to be children, they are allowed to grow up too soon as it is."

If children want to "grow up" and they are not being taken advantage of or exploited, let them grow up.

I see, so you have no problem with teens becoming pregnant?
With young men not being old enough to vote but becoming daddies?
And we wonder why our children have no moral values?

You didn't answer my question. I am not talking about the article. My first post was a simple question that no one seems to want to answer. What is the harm in two people (17, or 13 or 15....) that know how to have sex safely, and both desire the same thing, having sex? If someone can give me a good answer to this, then fine.

Safe sex isn't really an existing thing. Condoms have failed to prevent diseases, they prevent pregancies, give or take, but that's really it. However, safe sex or not, teenagers are really not emotionally capable of handling sex, and the responsibilities of both the physical and emotional aspects of sex or really just to much for a teen to handle.

Becuase condoms break..pills fail...teenagers end up pregnant. They end up going to birthing classes instead of graduation.

I can't even believe that we have to explain this to people...I can't believe people are asking why is it wrong for a 13 year old to be having sex. :sigh:

Why no, actually I don't think it's a good idea for teens to become pregnant. Bad planning for a future life.

Fortunately oral sex does not usually result in pregnancy. Furthermore, you might notice that I commented, "Certainly, we should teach them safety techniques." That was intended to indicate that I do in fact have a problem with not teaching our children the dangers of unsafe sex. I apologize for any confusion.

Thats a pretty good answer. Although perhaps rather than just saying that pills fail, it might be more fitting to question whether a teenage girl is responsible enough to take a pill at the same time every day without fail. I don't think this is something that can be generalized really. Many are not responsible enough. Some are. A lot of adults are not responsible enough either, often as a result of sexual repression in their youth. So who do we allow to have sex? At what age do we allow them to have sex? If not sex, what level of physical intimacy is acceptable at what age? I don't know the answers.
