I am not putting a relationship with another guy before God. God comes first. As I said, it is not separate. I can love and be close to and worship and praise God AND be in a relationship.

I'm not screwing around and not just having a "temporary breakdown" as I have had before. I've made the decision, and I'm OK with it. For once I want to get myself healthy. I care about myself and I'm not self-deprecating. For once.

Yes, this is my belief because I am an Orthodox Christian. If I was something else, sure, I could make up all sorts of things to believe, especially if they felt good and suited me. But I am Orthodox, which means that I believe in the Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Faith.

Have you ever noticed that when we recite the Creed, we say "I believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church?" That is right, we believe in the Church. It is not optional.

You cannot love God and disobey God at the same time. That is illogical. You cannot set yourself up as an authority and have God as your authority. You cannot put the words you want to hear in God's mouth. Yahweh will not be your idol and do your bidding. You might be worshiping some god, but it is not the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

You can be "ok" with it. Just know that you cannot do this and be Christian. Period. Gay relationships are not healthy. They go against every single thing that God has said about marriage.

I can obey God, yes, in a gay relationship. Your Church and others think I am disobeying Him. So I am not contradicting my own self for my own beliefs.

And yes, I CAN be gay and be Christian. Period. There are tons of people like that who are GREAT Christians. And I can be one, too. ANd the relationship can be just as healthy as a straight one.

You are guided by your own self, your own beliefs, morals... I believe in waiting til marriage/commitment ceremony. So does the guy I like. WHo is Christian.

Nope. All can be learned from. All have much wisdom. Just like the Bhagavad Gita, for an example, or the Qu'ran, can be learned from and contains wisdom.

No, honey. Planning to go against the witness of the Church and the testimony of Scripture in the future does not make it moral. It will still be an immoral, illicit act a year or 10 years from now.

And it harms the witness of Christ and the Church. That is what marriage mirrors according to Ephesians: Christ and His bride. Gay sex is not an icon for anything. It is a lie.

Justin, at this point, it feels like you are purposely being inflammatory by saying things like this when you already know that everyone here disagrees with you. They care deeply enough to pray for you, to be there for you and support you in your pain. Don't cheapen their affection for you by trying to make Orthodoxy into something that conforms to your beliefs. You already know that it is the self who ought to conform to Christ, not Christ and His Church who ought to conform to the desires of the self.

I acknowledge your desire for love and affection... but I do think that there is a part of you who does know that true joy does not stem from any of this. It runs deeper than fleeting emotion. The heart is restless until it rests in the Lord, to paraphrase St. Augustine.

My heart aches for you in your loneliness. It truly does. I identify with that emptiness more than you know...

Don't leave the OC Justin. Look at me! We know I differ on various issues, but I wouldn't dream of leaving the OC because of my beliefs and more, not in-spite of them. Besides, why would you want to leave a Church that has Apastolic Sucession? We have the real Eucharist!

Repeatedly saying it's all right doesn't make it so. You're perfectly free to your opinion, that's certainly your prerogative, but it's not something that's up for debate in the Church. But, good grief, you're 18, you probably shouldn't be dating anyway, so why is this coming up just now?
