Anybody out there ever been or heard of Promise Keepers? I'm an old fashioned New England Baptist, so I am very quiet and personal in my relationship with the Lord. I attended a PK event with my father in law, and it was quite the experience. Everyone was very outward with their praise (nothing wrong with that!), but it was a very different experience for me. The message was outstanding, it was just presented in a new way to me.

Anyone else ever been?

I have only been to one myself and it was amazing. There was a NFL guy there who spoke and it was very moving. It is a different experience than I have had before. Men try to be tough and unemotional a lot of the time and these meetings tend shatter those tendencies.

I am not a fan of PK. In my experience I have found them (the meetings) to be emotional outlets that leave people open to human suggestion. I, as you might guess, am not charismatic in any sense of the world. This does not mean that all that they do is wrong or that people are not blessed by it.

I have been to 3 Promise Keepers Events and I must say I have had mixed feelings about them. The first one was great, I was left totally in awe and what the Lord was doing. The second one turned out to be an exact copy of the first one. Same subjects, and seemed like even the same sermons just delivered by different preachers. The last one was good for only one reason - the comedian they added.

I guess I have a hard time since I know some of these guys they get to speak can go more indepth with their subject matter, yet don't because of what ever reason. I want to dig deeper, go further with my study than Promise Keepers does. I doubt I will go this year. However, I must say that PK is a great event for new Christians, ones who need a boast in their spiritual walk, or ones who have no clue how to be a Spiritually filled man of God. But for the rest of us, we need to rely on our study of the word of God, our time in prayer & fasting, and don't get caught up in the need for that big event high to carry us through the year.
