The National Center for Science Education got over 200 scientists to agree the following statement.

That is not many scientists you say?  Well it gets better.  Every scientist who was asked to support the statement was named Steve (or an equivalent).  As they represent about a percent of the population, it is only reasonable to assume that at least twenty thousand scientists would have supported the statement.  But that is too low since the statement was quitely circulated to only a few people and was only announced on Sunday February 16.    The supporters include two Nobel Prize winners for science and eight members of the National Academy of Sciences.    About two-thirds are biologists and thus more biologists named Steve suppored this statement than the Discovery Institute could find of any name to support its rather vague statement.

Read more about it here.

200 out of a test set of 200, all of which are scientists named "Steve." 100%. Obviously, this isn't fully generalizable, since scientists exist that would not agree to this statement. However, we can safely say that this evidence strong supports the claim that evolution is accepted almost universally.

Evolution is accepted by everyone except religious fanatics.

(Their names aren't really Steve, they were just using the name "Steve" to prove a point)

No, ocean -- the ones signing this statement were all Steve's or some variant thereof. That was the point. You can get more scientists named Steve to sign something that clearly supports evolution than you can get scientists by any name to support a dubiously worded statement of "skepticism" about "natural selection and random mutation alone"...

As Jerry pointed out, their names really are Steves (and variants of Steve like Stephanie).

If an organization could only find 200 pro-evolution scientists than the creationists might have had a point.  With Steve (and variants) being only one percent of the population and the list being Steves being collected in secret (until Sunday) this list makes it clear that the support of evolution is numbered tens of thousands (if not more) and that it is far stronger than the support from the evolution denier lists that only have a handful of Steves.

nice to know any of those who don't support evolution are labelled religious fanatics

Well, what other terms should we use for people who twist and contort reality to agree with their particular interpretation of Genesis?

Isn't that better than calling them "perverse"?  Supposedly ARN has an agnostic, but somehow he is never identified. C'mon, weboffin, point out to us some agnostics and atheists who support creationism.

Personally I'd like to see discussion on origins left out of the public education system. I suggest that if young fertile minds are able to grasp the beauty and wonder of Creation without being stifled by evolutionist dogma, they will naturally recognise the hand of their Creator.

Yes, until they decide they want a degree in biology and find out evolution actually does happen. Oops, then they'll assume Genesis is a lie and therefore the rest of the Bible are lies too and drop their religion, because it contradicts the only interpertation of Genesis that they have been taught.

Evolution can show them the hand of their creator just fine. No need to deny them of the beauty that is reality.
