  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I know exactly what you mean about procrastinating. I hate procrastinating and wish I could stop, but I wind up putting stuff off until the last minute. I also work full-time, and I know that it's not good to put assignments off until the last minute, especially with my busy schedule.

I am really bad at it too. I get distracted really easily when there is school work to be done. My English papers were always written the night before, and sometimes the morning before they were due.
Right now I should be studying for exams but instead I'm playing on my computer.

I am a horrible procrastinator too! I am procrastinating right now...lol I am in my last quarter of my degree program and have reached this point where I really don't care anymore ;) I'll tell you guys this much, I have procrastinated my entire college carrier (and it has been a long one) and it has served me well, not to encourage anyone. I do my best work under pressure. One has to be careful not to compromise their ethics when it comes to doing all those last minute assignments.

uh.. i hate leaving things till last minute. I think it's the attitude. If you don't like it enough, you'll start looking for ways to get it done. The worst case i have ever had was in last semester where my two team members left everything practically till the last minute.

and it was really the last minute! good that i brought along a hole puncher. I still sweat over how I manage to pass the subject. That was just too close.

I have just graduated with a BA and during most of my degree I strugled with procrostantion. I would say the majority of people I know often start working on their papers a few days before they are due. For some people this works fine and they get amazing marks, for me did not work out so well. Especially in my first two years I would start my papers too late and then not have enough time to edit them, therefore resulting in lower marks. This past year I became better at working on my assignments ahead of time. For me part of the reason why I procrostinated was because I was afraid of doing well, maybe you should try to figure out why you wait to the last minute to work on your assignments and dealing with any personal issues that might be holding you back may help (I am not saying that you have any).
Somethings that helped stop procrostinating was 1) I learned how to organize my time so that I would not spen three weeks working on one assignment and then have 2 days to work on another 2) Tell your self that you really done have to work on an essay, but you are going to work on it any ways for an hour or however long (this worked really well for me). 3) The busier I was the more I seemed to organize my time, but since you are working full time I am sure that you are busy.
Looking at your age I assume that you are close to the beginning of your degree, as time progesses you will learn what works best for as well you will become faster at writing papers.

1) Print everything you need and grab pens and a blank notebook.
2) Go to Steak & Shake or any place that's too glaring to be relaxing.
3) Removed from normal distractions and the computer's backspace key, do all your work.

It takes a little while because everything you write by hand has to go back to the computer, but it's the fastest way I've found to write papers and projects because it forces me to not procrastinate unless I sit there alone for hours, which is frowned upon.

Sounds like me...I just graduated also. My last sememester I was the worst. I just really didn't care as much. I was just ready to finish. I had one or two classes that I liked more. But I ended up studying the day before an exam or the day of an exam. And writing papers at the last minute. I probably would have received better grades on papers had I started them earlier...and better grades on exams had I studied earlier for them. Procrastination worked for me though...I did well even when I didn't put much work/thought into something and it was last minute, so I had no real incentive to change. I stressed myself out a bit more this semester with the waiting till the last minute thing. Usually I work better under stress though and sometimes I just couldn't think of anything if I tried starting earlier.

I think it can affect more than just college and education though if you get in the habit. I find it affecting other areas of my life as welll...I'm just a umm well-rounded procrastinator. I was before college. Who knows if I always will be.
I tried requiring myself to do things like work for an hour or something before I did somethign else, but it didn't always work since there was nobody else to hold me accountable. Maybe you can find somebody to help you and you can hold each other accountable to starting your work earlier or working on it for a certain amount of time. Sometimes studying with other people would help me focus...and sometimes it didn't work. It depends on who you study with.
Just find what works for you....and really you have to want to change!

A trick that helped me get my history papers done on time was to move the due date or deadline up in my own calendar. For instance, if the paper was due on March 16 then in my calendar it was due March 10. Try it and see how it works for you.

I also got a book several years ago on Procrastination aptly called Procrastination: Why You Do It, What to Do About It by Jane B., Ph.D. Burka, and Lenora M., Ph.D. Yuen that is available on Amazon. Of course, guess who hasn't gotten around to actually reading it ;) Perhaps we should both be reading it!
