  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The other day my cat suddenly developed what feels like a ganglian cyst on the back of her neck. Is it possible that it could've been from something heavy falling on her? She knocked over a dolly (like the ones used to move refrigerators and such) somehow, and I don't know whether it hit her or not. She doesn't act like she's in pain, just a little bothered by it, you know? But I can't imagine how a g.cyst would develop in that spot, and I've never heard of a cat having one. Oh, btw, she's a maine coon, very big, weighs like 30 pounds.

any thoughts?

Tal, has your cat been vaccinated recently? The lump sounds like it is in a vacination site area. It is now documented fact that the rabies and some other vacinations can cause cancer at the injection site. It is VERY important you take her to the vet ASAP as this cancer is very fast growing. Here are some websites with information.

I am telling you this because my cat had cancer at a rabies injection site so please don't wait to take your cat to a vet. I pray it is just a cyst or a bump from the accident and not cancer. Please let us know what happens.

My cat hasn't seen a vet in eight or nine years (she's about eleven years old - guessing). Hubby probably wouldn't approve of me taking her, unless maybe it's in response to her obviously in peril and pain.

Ummmm...when you have a cat, it's your responsibility to make sure it gets appropriate care. If your child had a growth, would you not take your child to the Dr? Same as a cat. You are responsible for it's health and well being, which means taking the cat to the vet when there is something wrong. Obviously, there is something wrong. Keeptrying is right, it could be a vaccine related sarcoma. It's cancer, it's painful, it can kill your cat if it doesn't get taken care of. It could also be a non-canerous growth, but because of where it's located, it would need to be removed ASAP. Since it's near the spine and head, if it continues to grow, it could cause damage to the spine and shoulder and make it painful for kitty to walk. Also, please remember, cats are very skilled at hiding pain and weaknesses.

Your cat needs to go to the vet now and if your husband says that you can't, either tell him to shove it or surrender the cat to a rescue group that will get it the proper care it needs.

For your ease of mind and for your fur-baby's health please take it to see the vet. An animal will not show pain because in the wild the pack will kick out the weakest animal. The best way to tell if your animal is not feeling good is if it stops eating and drinking. But if it is a tumor these things will probable not happen, just like in a human. I urge you to go to the vet, if it is something serious, you would wouldn't your baby to live in pain and suffer. Please let us know what happens!! And give her a birthday hug! Maine Coons are very beautiful.

Well, in submission to my husband, I did not take my cat to the vet. Instead, I prayed for her. The last thing I prayed was that if Phoebe was suffering, that the Lord would take her.... so she would not suffer. By the next day the lump had shrunk noticeably, and now it is very small, almost flat. And Phoebe has never showed any signs of suffering. If any of you also prayed for her, thank you so much. I think she is okay.

bless you
