  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pro something.....

Only Three Women Had a Voice in the Alabama Senate Abortion Ban Vote. I'm One of Them.
I am personally against abortion, but I'm pro-choice in the sense that I could not or would not impose my will, my desire, or my beliefs on anyone because it is an individual choice. Everybody has to make that personal choice for themselves and certainly that choice is between them and what they believe.

She also put in an ammendment requiring state provide prenatal and healthcare for all children under the age of 3. It was defeated 23-6
Sen. Linda Coleman-Madison, D-Birmingham, proposed an amendment that would have required the state to provide prenatal care and medical care for the mother and the child in cases when a woman is denied an abortion because of the law. Democrats said a lack of support from Republicans on issues that can help low-income families, like Medicaid expansion, undermines their argument about protecting unborn children.
Alabama abortion ban passes overwhelmingly with no changes

Is it time to let the cat out of the bag: It's not REALLY about "pro-life" is it?

HONESTLY?

Is it?
I mean the governor wrote in her post on this "Alabamians deeply held belief that all life is precious and that every life is sacred".

To be precisely clear:

The topic of this thread is NOT about abortion but about the defeating of the healthcare measure.

Let's try to avoid turning this into another abortion debate.

Um... wouldn't this be like... all cases? Because of the abortion ban? Well, except (ironically) for cases where the mother's health is in jeopardy. Pre-natal and medical care for mothers would effectively become free in the state. That's a pretty big taxpayer bill, so they would need to identify a source of income to pay for that. It's not something you should just tack on to the bill without dealing with the financial issue.

Fair point.
I mean it could inspire folks who truly care about the life and well being of a fetus, a mother and a baby to problem solve for a GOOD idea to be implemented.

But maybe it just isn't worthy of the discussion.

Yes, they should work on new legislation to help with those new lives.

Haha, it's Alabama, like that would happen.
