  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I want to become a freelance photographer and supplement my living that way. Right now I am working as a web designer for a small corporation and having to shoot a bunch of product pictures. I just got my first dSLR (Canon Digital Rebel) this last July. I also have a Canon EOS Elan IIE.

My wife and I are both professional photographers. She is currently the church secretary and I a youth leader for the senior high youth. We have a studio in downtown, Redding, CA and just finished a series of 12 fine art photos we like to call "Inspirational Scripture Art". You can view at wilson photography dot net if anyone is interested in seeing any of our work.

Also would love to chat about the business side of the work. I've been avidly taking pictures since I took a photography class in 7th grade and just recently taught a class of photography at a local christian high school for an elective class.

I'm not a pro, but I work for one. ;) I would love to own my own studio one day. I LOVE portrait photography. I love nature stuff, too. The thing I've learned from working with this photographer, is that advertising is vital. This woman is everywhere! She gets up to 15 shoots a night during the summer months! She puts business cards on trash cans, by registers, in magazines, brochures, everything. And obviously the quality of your work is very important too.
Like extreme said, it's a hard field to work in, since there's so much competition. If you're really good, though, you'll stand out. :)
I think it's cool to have a very comfortable studio. Have couches, snacks, music, etc. for people when they come in to view their proofs.
Just my $0.02.......

would love to know what some of you think of my work.

Most excellent! I enjoyed viewing those. I particularly like the "Irish Beauty". It reminds me of a photo my sister took of me recently. What kind of camera do you use?

is there anybody here that is a pro photographer? what i mean by that is that they make their entire living off of photography? i am just wanting to chat about business. thanks.
I am not a professional, but I was making my way there until my camera got stoled. I was devistated. I had such a great set-up, but if that hadn't happened (which was hard for me), I wouldn't have gotten back into college. I am almost finished with my schooling studying to be a pharmacy technician.

I'm a student in college, so I'm not a pro...but I am getting paid for my photography. I recently started working with a sports photography studio...and I get paid rather well. It's very exciting! I also do Senior Pictures for people who don't want to spend so much for professional. It's a lot of fun!

I'm a full time working professional. Just went full time in July 2004 after over 5 years of part time work. I shoot mainly weddings and outdoor portraits here in Central Florida (and pretty much anywhere clients want me to go as long as my travel costs are covered, whcih is starting to happen here and there!). I also shoot corporate events and gatherings, and just starting to get into product photography on the side.

I love this business - the absolute best things you can do for yourself is advertise and network with other professional photographers and industry professionals. This is assuming your image quality and business skills are acceptable if not excellent. Half of my wedding work comes from my network . Would love to chat about business with anyone needing help or willing to share information.

God bless you - one of the best things you can do is do what you love for a living. But seek the Lord's guidance and blessings first. Photography as a hobby is great, but as a business it can be EXTREMELY demanding and somewhat stressful at times. It can put a lot of stress on your marriage. If you are married, make sure your spouse stands behind you 100% as a lot of your work will fall on weekends if you are a people shooter.

I make my living taking pictures (though not much of a living right now, but I love it). I work out of my home. You can see some of my work at pbase.com/rsweatt.
I shoot family portraits, some weddings, daycare seasonal portraits, little league teams, reunions, and some product photography.
