Also... while this was down, I was doing some research on an unrelated topic and found out: One of the rights of a married couple IS in fact the ability to make medical decisions for each other.

i.e. a man technically has every right to make the decision that his wife is not to kill their child. Parents likewise have the right to do so if their daughter is still a dependant.

In order to respect that right, the parents or husband should be contacted before murder is considered.

No but there was a discussion about it in, I think, the Women's section and I remember someone saying that she had to wait until her husband came back before she could be sterilized because she needed his permission.

Yeah, dad can have a say, but as it's not his body, it's not his call to make.

Having a say was my point, so yes thanks he can have a say, you seemed to be suggesting he couldnt. The woman could not have conceived without the father.

As to not his body, the baby is partly his body, its his sperm that combined with the egg to conceive. That the baby isnt in his body but in the mothers is the way things are, if women dont want babies in their bodies they should have not have sex and conceive with the man.

definitely agree... again (as karisma keeps ignoring)... the woman's body is her own, but the baby is still the father's child. We should have SOME say in whether or not someone gets to kill it.

Yes you get a say, you get to give your input, but the final decision must always be the womans. I never meant that the dad never gets to even say anything about it.

So according to you, we're allowed to speak as long as we know what we say has absolutely no bearing on what happens.

I think the Christian way is better and less selfish, both the husband and the wife honour first God, including the gift of life they have jointly created, and each others bodies and wishes. see 1 Corinthians 7.

Doesn't Roe vs Wade mean that fathers don't have the right to make mothers continue with their pregnancy? I think that's a good thing. Women should have the right to choose. In an ideal world abortion wouldn't happen, but we don't live in an ideal world. I don't understand how you can say that abortion is under all circumstances wrong.
I think that the title of this is a bit misleading. I'd prefer the term pro choice myself.

Yes, basically. You could try to persuade this woman one way or the other, but ultimately it's her decision. This might seem unfair to you, but pregnancy is inherently unfair, as it's the woman's body who must carry it, so the final decision is hers, as it's her body. It can't be any other way.

Again... topic is for people who are pro-life to post the extent to which they can understand the opposite side of the argument. If you're not considering the other side of the argument, you're off topic, and you will be reported for intentionally trolling.

The point isn't to only give one side or other a chance to talk... but I wanted to have separate discussions at first (hense the two threads). One would just be for one side, one's just for the other. Then after a while, we could try a third, combined thread with what we've learned.

It's supposed to be two threads where each side takes a look at the other person's perspective of their side... but people saw pro-life people making the pro-choice argument.
... I'm sorry... but this is america. Men and women are equal. Fathers should have just as much say in what happens to their children as mothers do. And no one should feel they have the right to harm another person (male or female) without repercussion.

^If men were the ones who gave birth, they'd be the ones making the final call. It's not that hard to understand.

And I don't believe in hitting men. Not sure where you are coming up with that.
