• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Occasionally there are people on the forums that I would like to get to know a little better on a personal level.

I was just wondering how people feel about getting a PM from other members. Is that a sign of psychosis on the part of the sender? Is it just weird or uncomfortable? Or is it (possibly) appropriate?

Of course, NOW, I will be very careful about when I choose to PM someone, for fear that they might think I was talking about them. :holy:

Just to clarify...the point of doing so would be to become closer to other CF people that you are not currently close to.

I think private messages are a good way to carry on a one on one conversation. If they don't want to get them from you, they can tell you to stop sending them or block them. So yeah, it's not wierd or psychotic to send people private messages, just don't send 20 in 20 minutes or proclaim your undying love in the first one or anything like that :)

i really dig PMs... can't get enough of em. sometimes i too wonder if i should be sending em - always get the feeling the recipient will think i'm either selling something, pushing an agenda, or trying to chat them up... thus far all goes well, though, and it's brought me some good friends who i chat with daily. there are things some people just dont feel open about discussing on a public thread - PMs are a great vehicle we have to get to know each other better :)

I enjoy receiving PMs very much! Well, the nice kind. ;) I think along the same lines as you, brettnolan. There are some people here that I would like to try to know more on a personal level, but I'm not sure if it will be well received. I'm not sure if others are looking for that or are just here to post whatever is on their mind and don't want to be bothered with others.

I think sending PM's are fine. As someone stated, if the person receiving them doesn't want them or is uncomfortable, they can ask you (or whoever) to stop sending them. Part of the reason for PM's is to talk to each other.

PM's rock. I make lots of friends with them.
ANd if someone isn't freaked out by getting a PM from a 4 year old piece of cheese then you don't have anything to worry about.

:D May be kinda smelly--but not freaky.
