Valid concerns, but part of the reason I think the books are so great is the way they make light that culture and those preoccupations. I don't think they're there to influence people. I bought the first one expecting it to be nice and sweet like the film and ended up loving the wicked, laugh-out-loud humour of them. The author was really clever, I thought, in creating a character who's an average teen girl (struggling at school and with friends, dealing with her mum's new relationship etc.) but at the same time is living out this unbelievable fantasy - finding out she's a princess. I'm currently pushing the series on all my friendsMiss Mayberry said:I read the first book. I really didn't like it. All the 'Oh My God's and whatnot. It seemed pretty far from the 'G' rating of the first movie. Even Michael (is that The Moscovitz' boy?)'s IM screenname was 'CracKing'. Also, Mia's teacher was found in Mia's and her mother's apartment in his boxers. Beer and other forms of alcohol were also mentioned. That I didn't like. I'll just keep sitting in the theatres with the seven-year-olds, thank you.![]()
