  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's excellent, there are some characters left out, but it doesn't damage the film.. very true to the wit and early feminism of Jane Austen.

I don't pay full price at movies as we get nicely discounted tickets through my job but this is one that had I had to foot the $9.50 ticket price I wouldn't have resented it... as with all adaptations when you are a book lover I think it's easy to get caught up in what's NOT there, and I'm often guilty of getting nitpicky over things... however I think the overall package is VERY true to Austen.

It was lovely to see this film with my 12 year old daughter.. who as caught up in her love all things dark and scary, alternative and aggravating to adults as she is can't stop herself from still adoring happy endings and innocent romance. The proposal scenes had her giddy with preteen romantic notions.

I am a mega-fan of Austen, and my love for it all started with the BBC and A&E version of Pride and Prejudice. I expected this new adaptation to be mediocre at best, but I was TOTALLY surprised!!! I thought it was absolutely wonderful!

They condensed the story so well and kept everything in that was important. The characters were well cast and it's one of the prettiest films I've seen in a while. The cinematography was just beautiful! I'm so thankful that they didn't try to be like the miniseries, but took the story and made it new. It's refreshing to see such an accurate and beautiful adaptation!

I paid about $5.50 to see it during the day, but I'm expecting to go see it again. I would gladly pay night price to see it...I thought it was that good. I laughed and giggled the whole way through! I can't WAIT to have in on DVD!!! Plus, if you are a fan of the story, you will finally feel satisfied with the ending (I always did feel a little let down by the lack of a truly romantic scene at the end). I give it a whole 5 stars!

Linx

I loved Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman. Thanks for sharing here about the new movie of Pride and Prejudice. I was in the play on stage in high school so really know the story and even some of the lines.

I want to see it as soon as possible. :)

I just got home from seeing it myself, and to be honest...I personally thought it was just okay. I mean, it was good...just not that good. I'm not at all a fan of Keira Knightley. And I didn't think who ever the guy was that played Mr. Darcy did that great of a job. He wasn't cold enough. Lol.

I haven't seen the classic, which is very strange, considering 95% of the movies I watch are classics, you'd think I'd have seen it by now. Anyhow, the only other version I've seen, which in my mind is the best, is the one with Colin Firth. It's just so good and touching. I love it. I don't think any man can do a better job at playing Mr. Darcy as Colin Firth can.

Anyhow, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy seeing it, it's just that I didn't find it that great.

I must admit, I don't understand how people can like the Colin version :o:sorry: Maybe it's because I saw What A Girl Wants first, and to think of Mr. Darcy as a teenager's dad... That and Elizabeth wasn't very beautiful and I have the tendency to like my heroines to be at least pretty

Wow! I don't think I've ever met someone who didn't like the Firth version! Lol...it's a good thing, then, that this new version came out, yes? ;)

Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy in my mind, but Matthew MacFadyen has almost taken his place in my mind. I think I've kind of watched the miniseries so many times (I lost count when I hit double digits...I must be in the mid-20's by now) that I'm ready for new faces to the character. As for Jennifer Ehle, I can see how some may think she's not pretty. I thought she was pretty in a non-conventional way, and thank God for that! :p Too many gorgeous heroines tend to bother me...good things happen to average girls, too! ^_^

Did you like What a Girl Wants? Have you seen any other films with Colin Firth? I want to see the new Nanny McPhee or whatever it is...looks like a fanciful movie (kind of like Ella Enchanted).

I like the BBC version. The Elizabeth is pretty, Wickham is smug, and Darcy is wonderfully haughty and has... *sigh* black curls.

I was so happy that the Jane was pretty in this new one :) Even Darcy admitted that she was beautiful, and in every version I've seen I've never thought her that gorgeous. Even Mary didn't look like an old shrew! It always made me so mad that since she was a studious bookworm, they made her look like an ugly old woman!

It was okay. He was a good dad there. And I don't know if I will :) I'm not big on bratty children.

Lol...but why? They're so charming!

When you talk about the BBC version, do you mean the older one made in the 70's? I tried to watch it once, but I fear I was too closed minded and couldn't sit through it since I loved the BBC/A&E adaptation. Silly me...:sorry:
