NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's lawyers on Wednesday formally notified a New York state court of Trump's intent to appeal his criminal conviction on charges stemming from hush money paid to a porn star.

In the notice, Trump's lawyers said they would appeal both the jury's May 30, 2024, guilty verdict and Justice Juan Merchan's Jan. 10, 2025, sentence of unconditional discharge to a mid-level state appeals court.

I suppose anything's possible....but I still doubt it. Certainly, no one's been able to show any clear legal or procedural errors that would clearly indicate any irregularities or reversible errors that would result in a reversal. Still, I guess MAGA can always hope.

The idea that it would indicate bias is almost as ridiculous as the groundless fantasies of the Biden crime family and other Republican fairy tales.

Trump had sought to dismiss his criminal indictment and vacate the jury verdict on the grounds that prosecutors, during the trial last May, introduced evidence relating to Trump's official acts as president, after the Supreme Court later ruled in July that Trump is entitled to presumptive immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts undertaken while in office.

However, Judge Juan Merchan said on Monday that the evidence in Trump's hush money case related "entirely to unofficial conduct" and "poses no danger of intrusion on the authority and function of the Executive Branch."

Huh? What are you talking about? They did say he was innocent. That's why they had the whole trial, they were arguing he was innocent.

Granted, they were unable to convince the jury. However, the prosecution benefited from a judge who let them get away with some questionable legal maneuvers and also from the fact Trump's defense team presented what conservative Andrew McCarthy called "one of the most ill-conceived, self-destructive defenses I have ever seen in decades of trying and analyzing criminal cases" (more specifically, he says that the defense, in having to subordinate the trial defense to Trump's preferred political narratives, lost the ability to make various defenses and also had to make claims that could be easily torn down by the prosecution).

No. Merchan--the judge himself--donated the money to Biden/Harris's campaign.

His daughter actually did a whole lot more than that. She runs a political consulting firm called Authentic Campaigns that works to try to aid liberal candidates by doing things like raising money (on the website, as examples it mentions Adam Schiff, Karen Hancox, Lauren Underwood, John Hickenlooper, Cory Booker, Pat Ryan, Katie Hobbs, and Tina Kotek) and apparently was paid by the Harris campaign in 2020 and 2024 for some poltiical work.

Merchan, using remarjable self restraint, refused to put Trump in jail for contempt for his non-stop tirades that endangered the lives of Merchan, the prosecutors, the staff, the jury. They needed guards to keep them safe from Trumo supporters triggered by his in cendiary speech. He was given more leeway than most defendants while behaving terribly.
Trump said, unconvincingly, that he was an innocent victim...but his lawyers never said that.
At times they said he was immune. Immunity is not innocence.

"And when I stood here five weeks ago, five weeks ago, on April 22nd, I started out by saying something that I'm going to repeat to you right now because it's as true right now as it was on April 22nd, and that is, that President Trump is innocent."

This is found here or here (page 4463). So yes, contrary to your claims, they absolutely did argue he was innocent.
