A Presbyterian Prayer of Gratitude and Guidance

Gracious and loving God,
We come before You in reverence and humility,
Grateful for Your boundless mercy and steadfast love.
You are our refuge, our strength, and our ever-present help.

In Your wisdom, You have called us into a community of faith,
To walk humbly with You and serve one another in love.
Grant us hearts that seek justice,
Minds that pursue wisdom,
And hands that work for peace in our world.

Forgive us when we falter,
When doubt clouds our vision,
And fear leads us away from Your truth.
By Your Spirit, restore us,
That we may live as reflections of Your grace.

Guide Your church, O Lord,
That we may be a beacon of hope,
A vessel of compassion,
And a voice for the voiceless.
Strengthen our faith that we may trust in Your promises,
And fill us with joy in serving You.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Redeemer, we pray,
Amen.

Beautiful prayer!

Yes. The Presbyterian and Reformed Churches can be considered liturgical, as well as the Methodists/Wesleyans.

Liturgical Churches: Orthodox --> Catholic --> Anglican/Episcopalian --> Lutheran --> Methodists/Wesleyans --> Presbyterian/Reformed (including UCC) --> Disciples of Christ --> lower Churches

Very interesting. I was going to comment on a theme or two that seemed out of place, but didn't. Now that I know it's not venerated, I'll point two of them out...

"In Your wisdom, You have called us into a community of faith" -- I never heard this before... praises for being in a community of faith? What does that even mean?

"Grant us ... hands that work for peace in our world" -- This is popular in certain circles, but not Scriptural by any means.

When I was Presbyterian there was very little in the way of liturgical prayer. The only one I can remember was the Lord's Prayer (Our Father to Catholics).

The doxology "... for the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory etc" was incorporated into the prayer itself although it does not appear that way in the actual Gospels. I suspect it's that way in most Protestant churches.

There was still a liturgy, and services followed a prescribed format. I was fortunate in that the pastor was an outstanding speaker and his sermons were always interesting and challenging. The music was good as we had some accomplished musicians including a talented pianist who was studying music as a career.

But there wasn't much in the way of liturgical prayer and certainly nothing along the line of "mass parts" - Gloria, Alleluia, Holy Holy etc.

I was nonplussed when I saw the OP's "prayer" as we had never had a formal prayer liturgy other than the "Lord's Prayer" as stated above. It was out of kilter in my experience.
