I'd be interested in a forum dedicated to prepping, if that's the right term. This is about making oneself more independent of centralized sources, through such things as alternative energy sources, ways of making money, barter, and any other thing. The closest I've seen to this here is the gardening forum, which while useful, is only a part of what preparing for difficult times is about.

Yeah, that occurred to me too. Hopefully it won't come to that, but becoming less dependent on things we've come to take for granted can be helpful not only in extreme crisis, but when money simply is tight.

There are millions of people who live in places where internet is expensive and for whom money is always tight. It's like that for me (even though I live in densely populated area and the buildings here have 15 floors), and my money is tight because I'm saving up all my money for a few special things, of which the most expensive one (possibly only thing I'll ever afford) will be publishing a book. I have zero budget for furniture and home decoration, near zero budget for cleaning, small budget for hygiene, rather small budget for clothes (which includes sports and shoes). I also know there will never be a year when I make an amount of money which would enable me to save up at a faster pace.
This October the subscription for the internet connection I've been using ends. And I have never paid a penny for this connection, it was my mum who accidentally took a subscription she had no use for, it's a USB stick which works over the GSM cellular network. Instead of internet for a few years I have to set aside a little bit of money for the train to commute to two universities for one Month during the end of the Summer 2015, and possibly longer if I feel I can cope taking a class about the Bible while I take Hebrew, and a few times until Spring semester 2016 while I continue with Hebrew.
I'm fascinated by Biblical Academic discussions. Most of my youth and adult life I had no internet, usually not even a computer. Even so having internet is an impossibility - it's something which is reserved for really rich people or who are extremely lucky living in a house with low fees for internet. I won't get rid of my computers though - will just have to use them without continuous internet:
Hopefully it won't come to that, but becoming less dependent on things we've come to take for granted can be helpful not only in extreme crisis, but when money simply is tight.

That's why I think a forum for people who are looking for better ways to cope with the situations of life - living on a budget, surviving a societal breakdown, etc - would be a good thing. I think there are very many who would fit into that category.

As for affording internet, there are things people can do that might help. One is to use VOIP phone service and drop the landline. That alone can pay half the internet bill here in the USA.

I highly doubt all the charges and monthly fee would be lower. I call land lines, cellphones, overseas. And even if it would pay half, that would be far from enough money saved! My budget for internet is $9 Month. Internet here costs at $27 a Month.
I have to go to work AND study even though I have fever right now. I make $4.50 an hour. Tomorrow morning I will have to go to a closer uni than the ones I mentioned in the previous post, just one hour five minutes away early to check what used print books they are selling even though I know I will still have fever, to save a couple of $. I tried to go to the supermarket yesterday to buy sauerkraut but I didn't have the energy to so I missed the last bus, I will look today if they still sell it cheap, I save ¢11 a piece, or would if I wouldn't have dropped two last Week (one which I had paid) - I was absent minded. These are pretty heavy to carry, breaks my dolly but new ones are cheap:

Yes!
WE may have one is the works even as we speak.

I suggested a Christians Preppers forum and was told that they were looking at the creation of such during the current cleanup. Looking forward to learning and sharing.
Been prepping for several years now and have been convincing others to do the same with books and discussions.

Dids!
