  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

how much will taking my prenatals, or lack thereof, affect my child's development? i have a hard time taking them bc my gag reflexes are so sensitive lately, and everytime they reach the back of my throat i usually gag or throw them up...ive been trying to take them, but it's just not working...any suggestions?:sigh:

My gag reflex was also hyper-active when I was pregnant with my son (it's not as bad this time). I found that taking my vitamins worked a lot better if I did it at night before bedtime. It is very important for your baby that you take them. I would just keep trying at different times of the day and see if there is a time that works better for your body.

They make chewable Prenatals!! Praise the Lord. I cannot take my pill form prenatals at all, at any time of the day, with or without any meal. Until I can get my prescipton filled, I am taking TWO Flintstones Complete a day, which has the right amount of Irona nd Folic Acid, but I am not sure about theother ingredients.

I do not swallow pills period, so I take chewable, they also have a capsule that can be opened and put into a small amount of food to be eaten. I tried it with peanutbutter (my main food vice :).) and it was OK, but I was glad to ge the chewable script filled.

Great ideas. :) I think taking the vitamin is pretty important both for your baby and for you. I have read that if you don't get enough of certain vitamins the baby will take it from your body and leave you with a loss.... and mothers need to recover too and not have bone weakness, etc.

the vitamins, as far i understand, are very important b/c a lack of the nutrients they provide can cause problems with your baby's neurological development. like, women who don't take prenatal vitamins are more at risk of having a baby with certain brain or nervous disorders.

in my first trimeseter, when i was soooooo sick all the time, i took NaTelle (prescription) vitamins that were SUPER gentle on my stomach. now that i'm past that stage, i take OneSource prenatal that i can buy at the store.

Prenatals are precisely formulated for your pregnancy and/or nursing needs. They're pretty important. I didn't know they made chewables, but until you can get some, you might try drinking some water first. They will go down smoother if your mouth isn't dry. Folic acid, by the way, prevents spina bifuda... so it's very important.

My gag reflex is also pretty bad while pregnant. The taste of toothpaste can really gag me when I try to gargle. Fortunately, I haven't had too much trouble with the vitamins, because they are coated and go down smoothly.

I'd say call your doctor and ask him for another alternative to the big caplets. He should be able to call in a prescription by phone and take care of it right away.

thanks everyone, ive been trying to take them every day, most the time i get half of it down, i have to cut them bc they're too long, but im thinking that getting half is better than none. do you think it would be ok if i crushed them up and put them in my apple sauce or something?

try taking them at night ok? anytime you've kept a meal down or even crackers for 30 mins just take it then.don't make the decision to try and get the prenatals in first thing.they will make you sick on less food in your tummy. they're very important, folic acid, the B vitamins you will lack when you can't eat right.Good luck
PS what type are you on? they make different kinds by prescription.

I have a lot of trouble with prenatals. But I take seperate folic acid and iron and vit C supplements.

The prenatals are huge, and so hard to take. I now gag at all tablets I take...and I must admit I'm not the best at taking them....

Fortunately, there are no signs of spina bifida from the U/S I had.

And congrats on the pregnancy!!

I don't do prenatals-- they make me very, very ill. I drink Spirutein in the morning and take a chewable B complex with it--and then in the evening take cal/mag.

I have tried, even to take prenatals while nursing and not pregnant and they STILL kill me.

ANd hey girl---congrats on being preggers!!

I had my doc write me a script for one because the OTC ones I was buying I couldn't get down. These ones are purple, easy to swallow and smell/taste like vanilla. I have NO problem getting them down. :D

I can't believe I didn't realise the OP was 2005!! Here I was thinking she was preggers with another one!! I was getting really excited :)

(I always do when people are pregnant!)

I have changed today to Elevit, they are a once a day tablet instead of the two horse sized tablets I was taking. THey are still big and gross, but one tablet is better than two!
