  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pregnant, and considering a sling?

When we get further along in our adoption process, I'll be making a bunch: a ring sling; a pouch; a stretchy wrap; and a woven wrap. In exploring the different types, I've been reading babywearing.com (they give away a different carrier every month...all you do is post on the give away page). They have pics of real people wearing the different ones. thebabywearer.com also has a gallery of real people (as opposed to models touting a product )wearing their babies. All of the ones I mentioned seem to get good ratings as far as breastfeeding.

If your primary concern is being able to nurse hands free- then a padded ring sling is the way to go. For ease of carrying for long periods of time--Moby wrap is the way to go.

I have nearly every carrier out there, under the sun...but this is what I do...I have a pouch in the car, because that's the very easiest thing to pop baby in and out of, while running in and out of the store, library, etc. For any extended period of time I'll be wearing baby for the first 6 months--it's a Moby wrap (stretchy wrap). I find it to be the absolute most comfortable, as well as allowing me to do most of what I need to do around the house. Around nine months- I often switch over to an unpadded (with padded shoulder) ring sling, and a mei tai.

Personally, I have never been able to nurse hands free in any sling...but for little ones you need the support of the padding of a padded ring sling and the adjustability--if you're going to have any chance of success.

I love the ring sling we got for discreet nursing in the early months... For comfort carry after a certain weight however, I love our mei tai. I have a diymous wrap, but it is a woven material and much too hot for the LO and I to wear together, especially during summer.

I need to sell that one and figure out something else to try, possibly a girasol wrap which is a thinner material.

I had the opportunity to go to a babywearing demonstration and after talking to many of the moms there I decided on a stretchy wrap for the first couple of months, and then we'll most likely switch to a non stretch wrap and then to a mai tai...this will meet my needs as well as my baby's.

For me the deciding factor was my back issues so I needed something with good distribution, and that I wanted to be able to nurse discreetly..the wrap will do that in most cases without covering with a blanket. I also wanted something that was adjustable, could be used in several positions, and would allow me to be hands free.
