  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This is about Presidential contenders, right?

Democrat

1) Conventional wisdom: Hillary, Joe Biden (but unlikely)
2) Dark horse: Eliz. Warren, Andrew Cuomo
3) Who I'd like to see run: Claire McCaskill (a great VP choice for anyone), Mark Warner

Republican

1) Conventional wisdom: Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie (may now be fatally wounded)
2) Dark horse: Ted Cruz (too abrasive and disliked), Scott Walker, Tim Scott (a true dark horse, hah!)
3) Who I'd to see run: Susan Collins, Jon Huntsman

I wish we could see Rush Holt and/or Dennis Kucinich

I have a feeling that the Republican debates will be quite different this time around, cause none of those guys seem hawkish (at least not to a McCain level) and Rand Paul is pretty non-interventionist from what I can tell. I think I might throw Scott Brown into the dark horse category.

Democrats: I think they'll clear the way for Hillary. After the Obama years with an atrocious economy and an unpopular health care plan, they need to hurry up and unite behind one candidate.

Republicans: If you could get them to go for Marco Rubio, he'd be one of the best candidates they have. Is the GOP ready for a presidential candidate that's not a Caucasian male?

Hillary has the numbers pretty much right now. And I don't think any dirt that hasn't already seen sunlight is going to be dug up on her. If her health continues to be excellent, she is probably the Democrat's top pick for 2016.

Republican field is wide open, I can't predict, just too many of them and if Christie is out due to acting like an enormous bully, too many of them are too far right.

It matters not what the name is in these times, what matters to them is that whoever it is support their right to continue with obscene profits for the few.

I agree. The common working person has nothing to gain by voting in the Federal elections. Only if there was a very strong principled candidate would it be worth voting, but it doesn't look like there will be.

Maybe on social issues they are too far right, but others aren't fiscally conservative enough. At least Rand Paul will fight for civil liberties.

I find it funny when people say Obama is a socialist. No, Obama isn't close to being socialist.

I'll save wide angle economic debates for another thread though.

Pretty much this. Whoever wins doesn't change that the working class loses.

Hillary is the only viable candidate for the Dems - a proven liar under oath and many, many crimes against the Constitution and mankind.

I would like to see Dr. Ben Carson and Ted Cruz - but there are a lot of young ones coming on the scene that has some backbone to fight the corruption.

I absolutely think the GOP would be ready for non Caucasian male...the very fact that the GOP has a large number of minority elected leaders at the state level at least disproves this notion that the GOP is somehow racist.

GOP governors considerably more diverse than their Democratic counterparts - Orlando Political Buzz | Examiner.com

The issue is that any time a minority or female tosses their hat in for a nomination for P or VP, the Democrats seem to do a very good job of either making them look like a joke (Like the Palins) or running their name through the mud (Like the Cains) and then when it's narrowed down to all white guys, they turn around and accuse the GOP of not being fair to women and minorities.

Part of me thinks that's actually a key part of democrat strategy, make sure that the other party only has white guys left in the running, then they can use the "party of white men" narrative. Nothing would be worse for the democrats than having a woman or minority on the GOP ticket...and they know that.

I wouldn't have any opposition to Rubio running, I think he'd be a big improvement compared to what we have now, but I can see where left-leaning media outlets are already ready to pounce. CNN has already started to run articles that begin to portray him in a negative light.

You may agree with me in principal Edwin, but as far as making any changes in who is on the ballot, until Citizens United is overturned and there is campaign finance reform that takes the big money out of ALL campaigns it will continue to be that the country elects the status quo. D or R will not matter. Those in power will even weasel their way into the independents if nothing changes. Money talks. Period.

Fun thread - predict who you think will be (or want to be) nominee for one or multiple parties! :)

It's still a bit early to be making accurate predictions, but here is what I have for now:

Democrat: Joe Biden or Bernie Sanders(!?)
Republican: Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, or Ted Nugent(!?)

Winner: Paul Ryan (Republican).

There are plenty too far right on fiscal issues too--I mean for the general electorate, that is. I think all Republicans and most Democrats are too far right on fiscal issues.
