  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know there's two, I guess rubrics, that are followed when celebrating the TLM and it depends on the celebrant or maybe the order. Most as I understand it use the 1962 but I heard a really compelling case from a priest for using the pre-1955 instead. And I've also heard a lot of Catholics this year saying they're going out of their way to go to parishes celebrating the pre-1955 Holy Week.

My question is, is there a specific year before 1955 that most of these parishes/priests use? I mean pre-1955 is very broad. So what liturgy are they actually using?

Does anyone here happen to attend a parish that regularly celebrates a pre-1955 Mass and/or Holy Week? What's it like? Are there any known orders, licit or not, who primarily use pre-1955 liturgy?

I honestly don’t think it’s very common. There might be some schismatic groups who celebrate the pre-1955 liturgy. As far as I know, FSSP celebrates the 1962 Roman missal.

If memory serves, holy Saturday was celebrated in the morning rather than at night. I don’t recall all the other changes.

Oh, and I’ve only been to the extraordinary form about 5 times. I attend the new mass every week and holy day. I’m no expert by any means.
