  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been having a little trouble praying the rosary since I first got one a couple weeks ago. I just don't feel anything when I try to pray it and I don't know why. I know I should keep trying but before I get done I just stop because I'm annoyed by not feeling anything or something like that. I know I'm probably doing something myself to make myself have trouble but I don't know what. Sorry if my problem isn't clear but if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Oh, gosh I know what you are talking about! My entire spiritual life is that way-- I feel nothing- not at Mass, not at prayer, not at meditation. Every now and then I am gifted with a small bit of emotion in regards to my faith, but mostly there's nothing!

It is a great gift to have the emotional feelings removed from your prayer, as it is an opportunity to do it just because you love God. You get to be removed from your prayer, if that makes sense? I very heartily recommend the book The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis de Monfort-- it may feed you well as you pray the rosary.

Above all- pray that you may avoid discouragement, and know that faith has nothing at all to do with emotion or feelings, but rather a disposition of the soul. That your soul is ready to do whatever the Lord asks, whether or not there is emotional reward.

Shannon , I am the same way . I just not that emotion. But in exchange our Lord as given me an undenable belief in the truth of his message and teachings. But when I am down our Lord send me a message that reminds me of his truth.

P.O.D if your prayer life is usllay emotional then there are several things you might want to try. But keep in mind the rosary isn't for every one. We each have diffrent spiritual needs.

Things to try:
Pray it at adoration or in front of the tabernacle
Ask Mary to embrace you and guide you to her son through the rosary
Ask the saints to join you
Search the Web there are many sources of medation aids to read through as you pray.
There also pictures to reflect on.
Or find a recording to listen to

Oh gosh, I don't think I agree- after the Mass, I think the rosary is the greatest prayer there is. Even little Bernadette knew her rosary to pray with the Pretty Lady in the grotto. Reember Mary said to St. Dominic that through the rosary and the scapular the world would be saved.

(I am not trying to be contentious, if it sounds that way, I am really tired and just not expressing myself well!)

Sometimes we feel nothing, and this can go on for a while . . God sometimes hides Himself, takes away the consolation of His sensible presence. And He does this as in His infinite love and understanding, it is for our benifit, to bring us closer to Him and to give us more of Himself ..

When we cannot feel His presence, we think something is wrong . . but He desires to wean us from the need to feel His presesnce, the need for these consolations so that we do not depend on the sensible nature, but truly learn to trust Him and depend on Him regardless of what we feel . . even when we feel absolutely nothing at all . ..

As we learn this, the times of His consolation become like coming to an oasis in the desert . . wonderful times of refreshing, but not necessary for our faith or love for our Lord . . . an then He calls us to walk in the desert with Him . .

And as we submit to this leading of our Lord, and walk with Him where we first are fearful to trod, we find and experience the depths of His love for us and our love for Him . ..

When He seems far from us, He is actually the closest . . .

Peace in Him!

I agreed with what your say :) The Rosary is very powerfull and in the top set of prayers. I pray it every day. I even requested that our holy mother never allow me to go to sleep with out saying it.
ANd I would encourage every one to put their heart into it because Our Lord will repay all who do.
But we all have diffrent spirtual needs at diffrent times of our lifes.
