Hi there guys!

Last week we bought a car. :) With little one on the way, and expected to make his/her appearance in the winter, it made sense to get one. A little $ 2500 special :)
It's a great blessing, even now, since I can now afford to go to Morning Mass every day - Praise the Lord!

In the past, I used to take the bus and had a great amount of time to pray a Rosary every day.

I have taken the car to work twice now since we got it, and with it being an automatic transmicssion, it seems to me like I could ( And did already) pray a rosary on my 25 minute drive to work.

My question is this: Is it okay to pray a rosary while you drive? I do not have a CD of it, so I pray it with my one hand whilst driving.

I don't feel like it is comprable to a cell phone conversation, since my "rosary hand" is free to be on the wheel too for normal driving.

Would this be dis-respectful to say a Rosary without giving 100% attention to it? I just love to maintain the practice, but I'm not too sure if it is right?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks! :)

I do it all the time! Although, I use a rosary ring, instead of a full rosary...it's just a little easier while driving.

Congrats on the new baby!!!!!!!!!

Dear St. Joseph Cupertino,

I pray the Rosary with the Catholic radio people on my way to work and I drive a stick shift 5-way speed truck. I've been doing this for awhile now and have lived to share it with you... LOL :)

The way I figure it is that when I'm driving to work, in the past, I would listen to all kinds of music and talk shows, then one day I'm came across this Catholic radio station that had people praying the Rosary and I couldn't change the channel. Thus, I started make praying the Rosary part of my daily routine while driving to work. After all, 20 - 25 minutes of praying the Rosary while driving to work and driving home... what a wonderful way to start a day of work and a beautiful way of ending a day at work. God bless you and always be with you.

Pax,

Debbie

I do it...if you use tapes or CDs it can be very helpful and you don't need to use a Rosary or Rosary ring...I also love doing the Divine Mercy Chaplet....which is my favorite during heavy slow traffic...just pop the CD player, and traffic becomes a breeze not a headache...Peace be with you...Pam

Wow! That is SOOOOOOOOO cool! The Auto rosary, nice! We'll have to see if there's one of them at our local Catholic book stores for you, eh Joseph?

And BTW, he won't be a danger to other drivers, as he's the most safety conscious driver (and pilot) that I know of!

Have a Marvellous Monday all!

Whatever you do just don't do anything that will distract you while driving. They are now saying even the hands free cell phones don't help prevent accidents because you are still distracted by the coversation. The same could be said about praying the rosary. If you have to take your hand off the wheel to pray the rosary then you probably should invest in a CD instead of having to take your hands off the wheel. But you will need more than a rosary if you get into an accident and kill some child or grandmother. When you are driving, paying attention to the road and the other cars is your #1 priority. There are other places and times during the day to pray the rosary.

i often pray the rosary while driving. i usually use my fingers to keep tract though so i both hands free to drive.

Perhaps I am lucky... I live in a small town of 10,000 souls and when you go out of town, you are truly in the middle of nowhere, and there is not much traffic at all...

I pray the rosary in my car as well, but only out of neccesity. I utilize the 1.25 hour commute to work, which is just enough time to get a solid rosary in (there's more distractions while driving, so it generally takes me longer). I would prefer to pray the rosary on my knees in a quiet place without distractions, but I'll certainly take what I can get.

My recommendation: Pray it as often as possible, and in your car if you must (only if you are capable). This prayer is too powerful to pass up in any way shape or form!

Blessings,

-Davide

Yes, for the most part I pray the rosary on the floor, but during times when on the way to an out of town Doc's Appointment, or during the 2+ hour commute to the TLM I like to pray an extra Rosary... It is harder to focus on the meditations while driving and I'm not sure I would try in some areas..
