• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi, my name is Casey and it has been awhile since I posted on these boards. For the past two and half years I have been dealing with chronic lyme disease and two co-infections. This illness has caused me to be bedridden for two years and in constant pain. My husband had to change his work schedule to take care of me and our four girls. Well, I am finally making some progress. As of last month I am in remission from my two co-infections. I am starting to be able to do a little bit more and not be stuck in bed a lot. I am having trouble getting back to having a somewhat "normal" life. I find it overwhelming and it causes me to be anxious and I just don't know how to deal with it. After being out of the game for so long I am confused. I know that sounds silly but it is how I feel.

I would love some prayers and any advice if you have it

Were these ' co-infections' actually post-infection sydrome (no detectable infection but persistant symptoms) or real infection accompanied by fever and positive Lyme tests? Where you, like many others, told by doctors that 'it's all in your head'? If so I have some thoughts to share (I had Lyme disease also, and have fully recovered).

I had bartonella and babesia with Lyme.for a year and a half I was told I was crazy but once I found a Lyme doc I was tested and positive through igenix. We dealt with my co infections first b/c my babesia test results were off the chart. So now we are treating Lyme. I am on a heavy dose of antibiotic and I take for three days straight and then 4 days off

I only had Lyme (or so was told) so I dare not comment on your condition as you had the co-infections as well. I felt that the reason my symptoms continued long after the actual infection was gone was that the spirokete bacteria resides in the tissues and joints and not the blood and is therefore difficult to fully purge from the system, once killed by antibiotics. I then had a body full of dead bacteria that required months for my body to remove, and thus the continuing symtoms. It would be like a horse fouling a stream with manure. You shoot the horse to solve the problem. Now instead of manure you have a dead horse fouling the stream.

I don't have Lyme disease but I'm diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myofascial Pain Syndrome & possibly Fibromyalgia. I just wanted to pop in and encourage you. You are not alone in your experience with some health care professionals not understanding. It can be frustrating and invalidating. There are those of us who get this and we care. You are not alone. I don't mind listening or chatting (although I don't know much about your illness). Take care. :groupray:

Me either. I don't mind listening. I've had my fair share of chronic health problems (GERD, IBS--since I was 12, unexplained tiny swollen glands, fibromyalgia, and a few other things), so I can certainly sympatize with you about feeling rotten and trying to get back into the swing of things. For those of us with chronical conditions that don't incapacitate it can be almost as bad because we HAVE to work. Most docs won't give you off to recouperate from 'minor' chronic conditions. So many of us live with pain (or for other people, breathing problems or migraines of what have you) and still have keep plugging along, perhaps getting fired for too much time off, struggling to find other work, and starting the process all over again.

I believe that chatting about it is a great way to get it off your chest, to know others sympathize and join with you in prayer. I also say God Bless your husband for loving you and honoring your vows (my ex certainly didn't when health problems cropped up).

Sorry to hear you've been struggling. I've been on disability for quite a while but was misdiagnosed, ignored, got wrong treatments & meds and treated rather badly. Because of this my condition has deteriorated greatly and my entire body is in pain constantly. There was a time I even needed a wheel chair for some months and I was in bed for practically three years. Just taking a shower was very tiring. To make a verrrry long story short, three years ago I was finally diagnosed properly and now I have a good doctor and I'm on my way to getting the right treatment and some more tests which will be helpful. ...but, yes, it isn't easy dealing with chronic illness and on top of it being surrounded by professionals who don't understand. Take care of yourself and I don't mind listening.
