  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you guys have some time, could you please pray for my grandpa?  He's dying of cancer (bladder cancer that, after 10 years finally managed to metastasize to his spine) and it doesn't look too good.  He's finally said "enough is enough" to all of his treatments and hospice is coming in on Monday.  Please pray that God comforts him and our family in this trying time and that if He sees fit, to reduce the amount of suffering that my grandpa is enduring.

Thanks.

Thanks for the prayers folks, they are greatly appreciated. According to the family, my grandpa doesn't seem to be in as much pain as he was, but he has also lost his ability to stand on his own (probably the result of the cancer crushing the bones of his spine into the cord itself). Hospice arrives tomorrow morning to evaluate and then begin administering treatment, etc as appropriate.

One of the problems of being in Oklahoma is the fact that I am 1300 miles away from my nearest family. Therefore, I am heading home tomorrow to be with my grandfather. Fortunately my boss told me to take the time to be with him (and begin writing the introduction of my thesis while I was at it) until the years end (if he makes it that long). This means that I'll be out of pocket until 2003.

Thanks for the prayers folks, and thanks for all the support throughout my time here. Some of you have turned out to be good friends, I wish I could return that friendship half as well as I have received.

Hope you and yours all have a blessed Christmas season.

PS: William Putnam, nice to see you here!

PS: William Putnam, nice to see you here!

I am constantly amazed to see old friends in a new forum I first post on! I am a bit bewildered by all of the "bells and whistles" here, but I will get used to it, I suppose.

For your grandfather, you have my prayers sir! When his time comes, may he be without pain, and at peace with the Lord.

God bless,

PAX

Lord, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things that I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that you will make all things right
if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.

Late here, but praying for your grandpa, you, and all your family at this time. I hope the blessing and joy of this Advent season eases your parting, because remember that it's not 'goodbye' it's just 'see you later'. May our Lord bring him home, and may all the angels and Saints welcome him. The Peace and Love of our Lord be with you all.

God bless you, nyj... I'm praying for your grandpa and family too. :pray:

May Jesus ease his pain, may Mary soothe him Home...

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
And blessed is the Fruit of the womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners,
Now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their words of comfort and sympathy. Second, my family and I would like to thank you for your prayers.

My grandfather is now in what they call the "end stage". Non-responsiveness, bouts of apnea (stops breathing for 10-30 seconds), inability to swallow, dehydration, development of a "death rattle" when breathing. Hospice has switched to a purely "pain maintenance" mode, liquid morphine absorbed though the oral mucosa and medicinal patches to relieve the rattle and also provide an additional, constant level of pain medication. At this point, barring a miraculous recovery, he is but days away from rejoining four of his brothers in heaven. Of consolation is the fact that three of his children are now with him and the other is on his way and that is resting comfortably and appears pain-free.

Please, if you can, keep praying and when time permits (I'm on my aunt's computer) I'll try to let everyone know when he's passed.

Once again, thanks everyone, this means alot to me.

-Tom

December 14th, 2002. 10:53 PM. Thanks for all the prayers folks, they were (and are) appreciated. He passed quietly from this world while his favorite movie played in the background (Song of Bernadette - a movie about St. Bernadette of Lourdes).

Saints of God, come to his aid!
Come to meet him, angels of the Lord!
Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

May Christ, who called him, take him to Himself;
may angels lead him to Abraham's side.
Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Give him eternal rest, O Lord,
and may your light shine on him for ever.
Receive his soul and present him to God the Most High.

Let us Pray.

All-powerful and merciful God,
we commend to you, Dominic, your faithful servant.
In your mercy and love,
blot out all the sins he had committed through human weakness.
In this world he has died: let him live with you for ever.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon him.

May he rest in peace.

Amen.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Amen.

Lord, God,
you are attentive to the voice of our pleading.
Let those who loved Dominic find in your Son comfort in their sadness,
certainty in their doubt,
and courage to live through this hour.
Make their faith strong through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

I love you grandpa.

To NYJ:

Rejoice, all of your family rejoice. While Grandpa is no longer here, he is with Jesus, and Praise God, he doesn't hurt any more. You WILL see him again in Glory.

May your memories bring you comfort always.

Peace be with you,
~VOW
