amen oneiric. Whichever form you feel comfortable with, and you can pray at anytime and anywhere.

I have heard scripture that supports something to the effect of 'praise with your lips/mouth' - i.e. out loud. I have been praying and giving thanks out loud lately.
I don't think it matters completely. I have found that when I speak to God out loud, it tends to get the rest of my family more involved.

Praying silently is just as effective. God hears all our prayers. I think praying out loud is a spiritual growth issue. For many of us it takes a while before we are able to do it. However, something about hearing my prayers with my own ears is really effective. For me I say so much to myslef in my head. Most of it just ignorance. However, when I verbalize a prayer, I know that it is sincere, and I mean it.

Many very good answers here ametropia! One thing I would like to add, Paul said, pray without ceasing. Well that seems impossible if you only think of prayer as outloud or on your knees, but one day I heard Joyce Meyer teaching and she blessed me when she said, Prayer is talking with God. Period. Sometimes you may want to talk out loud with Him sometimes you are just carrying on conversation with Him in your head! Suddenly I understood, I had been praying more than I ever realized because I constantly am asking for Jesus' opinion on this or that and telling Him how beautiful the day is today or how lovely the horse is, how I admire His handiwork..... Then I realized, Paul was right! YOU CAN pray without ceasing! It is possible!
