Prayer, Please

I just finished watching a show tonight and caught the opening segment of the news as I was about to turn off the tv. Westboro Baptist Church is at it again. They have announced that they are protesting a local high school here that is about 20-30 minutes from where I teach. In their press release, they talked about how God hated the school and referred to the girls of the school by sexually explicit slurs.

This is the exceprt from their website attacking the school:

"We have a message, from your Maker High school students - we're here to deliver God has cursed you, with your parents' lies Now God is rejecting your filthy raging lies Violent brats, God hates you These plain words, we're here to tell Fornication - makes God angry Simple *edit* - will go to hell God has cursed you - hating teachers Sin-enabling-children-raping preachers No more jobs - the economy has crashed Nothing left but misery - all your hopes are dashed Raging punks, God hates you These plain words, we're here to tell Your 'friends' hate you - makes you angry 'O.M.G.!' - you'll scream in hell You're cursed of God, and your rants and rage won't stop us From telling you that God is your enemy And even as you search for jobs you soon will wish you'd long repented - Yesterday - We-ll just say - Raging punks, God hates you These plain words, we're here to tell Your 'friends' hate you - makes you angry 'O.M.G.!' - you'll scream in hell"

So, please pray for the students of this school. We all know that this group is NOT Christian. But, the fact that they claim to be so may turn many kids from Christ. They fact that they use Christ's name hurts us all. Pray that the church leaders in the area can rally to the school and just be there to love the kids.

And as much as it sucks to say this, please pray for the safety of the protestors. Please pray that their hate does not infiltrate others around to retaliate in violence. Please pray that God will silence their hate.

Man, I will pray for this whole situation; that God will reveal His glory through it.

Madeleine L'Engle, in talking about "Christian art" wrote about how saying Christ's name doesn't make something Christian. This is such a good example of that.

Let us remember not to judge them because they are judging others, or we are no better than them.

Prayed. This really makes my blood boil.

This nut (Fred Phelps) has a multi-million dollar judgment resting on him but he still hasn't learned his lesson.

this is one group I try to pray for regularly. I know they even tried to come to Canada to protest at the funeral of that guy who was beheaded on the greyhound bus, its one of the few times i can remember where i was simultaneously brokenhearted and had my blood boiling from pure anger. I just can't comprehend the level of hatred they have for everyone outside their church, and i hope i am never able to.

But the truth is the members of this church are headed for the same destiny they accuse the rest of the world of. They need prayer as much as the lost need prayer not to be dissuaded by this group from coming to Christ.

wow, that message was incoherent but I got the jist of it. Sounds like the ramblings of a man man. I am definately going to pray.

I see these guys out in front of Arlington cemetery on almost a weekly basis. It's surprising just how active across the country they are.
