Hi Fields316
Oh my heart was so sad to hear this. But I know we have no need to give up hope because the Lord with His unfailing love with have mercy on this lost lamb and bring him back home.
I sense in my heart that Jason has at some time become very discouraged and in inner turmoil, and could not deal with it on his own. In this vulnerable state the enemy will quickly get him at his weak point and cause him to further feel much worse by bribing him with lies - such as God doesn't care, He will not do this, you're a failure or whatever.
Backsliding always begins with discouragement. No body just suddenly decides they don't want fellowship with God anymore. It obviously happens when something in life has happened to bring disappointment or hurt, or grief such as loss of a loved one.etc That they aren't sufficiently mature enough in the Lord to deal with from a point of faith.
There comes a time when they reach a crossroads and make a decision - if at this point no one steps in the Gap, interceding on their behalf, again the enemy will overcome them and there comes a downward spiral of disillusionment, then despair and finally LOSS OF HOPE. At this point they can't see any reason to continue with their walk with the Lord.
Anyone who would have spent enough time with Jason from the very moment he felt discouraged would have noticed this downward spiral of feeling hopeless, negative, missing fellowship more often, letting sin creep in, and then as the weeks/months passed further disillusionment and eventually the position Jason is in.
We as the Body of Christ are responsible for bearing the burdens of our Brothers and Sisters. From a personal point of view, the Body of Christ has failed a Brother/Sister if due to lack of prayer, fasting if necessary, they struggle and end up in a fallen away state.
We are in a spiritual war here and this wounded soldier has been captured back into the enemy camp.Obviously if Jason was offered every support but not backed up with intercessary prayer this is where we fail.Though of course I do not know the circumstances that caused Jason to eventually live as he now doing. And even with no failure of the Body of Christ to intercede, Jason can still decide he doesn't want to bother with fellowship with God.
So dear Fields316 I will certainly be praying for this hurt, lost lamb to be bought back home to Jesus where he belongs. And that Jason sees his need for Jesus again and has a longing in heart to know that love, peace and security once more.
I don't know of any backsliders who are truly happy with their decision. Deep down they know they are unhappy without Jesus but for reasons personal to them don't feel able yet to return to the Lord. And like all those who don't know Jesus, fill their life with things that never truly satisfy.
Jason will come back to Jesus. I'll keep praying.
Much peace
Gentle-Heart
