  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have noticed that a lot of my brethren of the Penticostal persuassion take little scraps of cloth that they annoint and prayer over and give them out to the sick and hurting telling them to keep them close to them. I know they get this from Acts 19:11-12 where peices of Paul's clothing where used to heal the sick. My question for my Baptist brethren is this: Do you practice or even believe in using prayer cloths? Why or why not?

I don't use them, and neither does anyone in my church. The question is do they work? It's possible. However, I'm not comfortable using them. It's almost limiting God's power to a cloth.

J.Vernon McGee made a good point in one of his studies. He was diagnosed with cancer some time during his ministry. He told God he didn't want to die yet. He said that he went to the doctors so that God could heal him through their expertise. Without God giving them that knowledge, they would not be able to heal. God healed him of course, but used doctors to do it.

Can He use a cloth to heal someone? Sure. However, what happens when someone takes that cloth with them and they aren't healed? Do they get discouraged and angry at God and turn away from the faith? Unfortunately, this is an all too common trend amongst the faith movement. Men who claim to have healing powers, deceiving multitudes and turning many away from the faith. Our adversary the Devil is wise. He knows how to turn people away from God. "God, You didn't heal me, therefore, You don't love me, therefore, I hate you!" (not that they all say this)

Ultimately, it all comes back to trusting in God and allowing Him to work in our lives. If the time comes when we need healing, either He'll heal us or He won't. Either way, He is still God and we love Him!

No.. It IS limiting God to cloth.

Catholics use rituals and props but Pentecostals do far sight better... by using rituals and props Baptists espouse doing away with the hokey-sorcery of rituals and props... but you'll find a number of people using the KJV as a crutch just as much as anything else is used.

Some people have weak faith, these people need such silliness because they have a hard time believing in Christ; We shouldn't try to kick the walking stick out from under them, but teach them that the Christian walk doesn't require a crutch, but rather Christ himself to carry us all the way.
