  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Colossians 1:3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Colossians 4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

1 Thessalonians 3:10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

Romans 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Romans 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

I've noticed a trend in this forum, that many don't like to talk about prayer. Thank you.

I dont think its a fair estimation to say that folks here dont like to talk about prayer...its really not come up that often. Suffice it to say, prayer is very different from back under the Kingdom program. We dont have the option to pray whatever we will and it will be done for you, as it was then. Also, healing and such is not on the table as something we can expect in this dispensation. Can God heal? Sure...but once you are healed, you WILL eventually die of something, right? God isnt so concerned about these outward bodies as WE seem to be...wink. "The outward man is perishing, but the inner man is being renewed day by day". I think Gods focus has changed in this dispensation of walking by FAITH instead of by SIGHT.

What do you think?

How do you pray?

How do you meditate?

Thanks for asking a terrific question. I've been in a somewhat dry period lately, so this could be beneficial. In a sense I pray everyday at many but not all meals. Sometimes I pray a specific request where ever I'm at and if I feel led to pray. Sometimes I pray when I take a walk; I find it a wonderful to sustain a "conversational" prayer about an issue then. I pray when I have a devotional time, but lately I've been inconsistent and busy. Then there are times when I just don't feel like praying.

I have developed different "forms" of sustained prayer over time. There is the standard petition for others and praise/thanks/gratitude toward God. Another is a "watch and pray" temptation type prayer. When I'm feeling dry or have issues to work out, then I like to engage in a kind of "heart-to-heart" prayer (usually when I walk).

Meditation means different things to people; personally I've come to use three kinds of meditation. One is 5 minutes of "quiet and be still" in my devotional time, which I do after I've read Scripture. I found it to be a great way of "priming the pump" before I pray in my devotional time. Another meditation method I use mostly to focus and concentrate is a deep breathing technique. The third method I like to use is a thinking/pondering of Scripture and Scripture events.

I don't know, did Abraham walk by faith? Or was Abraham working for his reward?

Abraham believed what God told HIM, and it was counted unto him as righteousness. He also didnt have the complete information we have today...as Gods revelation has been PROGRESSIVE. Faith implies that one believe what God has said to THEM, doesnt it?:wave:
