Could someone post for the benefit of those who might be casually reading this thread a brief overview of the 16 saints?

If no one else can do it, later in the week I might have time to do it properly. I’m having a bit of a problem with congestion this morning so it would be Wednesday or Thursday I reckon at the earliest.

I would say if there are two guys to zero in on, it would be Sts Cleopa of Sihastria and Dumitru Staniloae.

Thank you so much, that way people who look at this thread get an at a glance view.

Superb, God willing, I will do something concerning them.

The Securitate of the Romanian government is the brutal secret police that everyone forgets. But the Communist regime in Romania was not only particularly unpleasant, but it had an unusual degree of self-determination within the Warsaw Pact, for example, buying Western aircraft for TAROM in addition to Soviet types (and the small number of Czech aircraft) which was normally a taboo for Warsaw Pact countries, and being about as independent as anyone in the Warsaw Pact could be without experiencing an invasion such as happened in Budapest in 1955 or in response to the Prague Spring. I’ve often wondered if it was purely natural resources, or some other aspect of the brutal rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu.

Ceaușescu was able to take advantage of both the West and the Soviets fairly well. Part of it was his ability to exploit Khrushchev's weaknesses and mistakes. He also reassured the Soviets that he would not abandon Communism either; which was part of why Romania wasn't invaded, but Hungary and Czechoslovakia were.

Amen, brother. I am not an Orthodox, but we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Were any of these saints born after 1950?

What do you mean by terrifying? If you mean dying as a saint, yes, martyrdom is scary.
it’s terrifying to meet a saint. wonderful, but also terrifying.
