  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Another oddity. Since when does a Republican former Sec of State endorse a Dem candidate with far left ideas on foreign policy.

This Presidential campaign just keeps getting weirder by the day....
Tis *astonishing* - in a bad way. I think it's supposed to add credibility to Obama but, actually, it just makes me look at Powell differently.

I actually agree with him that the way McCain has played it in the latter stages has been intolerable - but to be so sycophantically and evangelically supportive of Obama... bleh.

Yeah, I think McCain shot himself in the foot with that....
Same. Do you know what's sucky about this election? Tis lose lose either way. Neither candidate seems to have any integrity or kindness.

TOTALLY! I agree with you wholeheartedly on that sis. It's really heartbreaking to watch.....it's a lose/lose no matter which way you slice it.....it's horrible. I've said this elsewhere, but I think both parties put forward the very worst that they had to offer....

Agree :( Would you have preferred Paul or Huckabee for the Republicans? I don't know who else the Dems had, but Clinton would have been dreadful, too. That woman managed to smile in front of the cameras after discovering her husband had been having a really seedy affair with a young woman. Just couldn't ever trust someone who'd be able to hide their true feelings that well.

I fear the controversy and social unease that will result if the election figures aren't definitive, especially if it doesn't go Obama's way. :sigh: This is the most unusual election I've ever experienced.
It really is weird this time around, right? More polarized than ever, more cynical and vitriolic than ever, less hopeful than ever... :( If further elections deteriorated at the same rate, it's just a hop, skip and jump to civil war, almost.

I would have liked to see Huckabee for the Reps and Hilary for the Dems. LOL, I like Hilary!:D I've hardly met anyone on-line who likes her so I kinda feel like I'm in a party of one supporter - me.^_^ I dunno, I felt really sorry for her over the whole Lewinsky thing, it was horrible and I had a heart for her humiliation over that....I dunno about the "smiling" bit, I certainly saw her not smiling lots of times.....I think it must be hard to be in the open and be publicly humiliated by your husband like that....I don't think I would have liked to show my true feelings because I prolly would have burst out crying every chance I got...........I think I would try to put on a brave face as well.....however that was interpreted publicly, but inside I would be crying and devastated if my husband had done that to me.....

So weird.....and yeah, the possibilities of civil unrest seem inevitable if things escalate.....yikes!

Given the fact the Joe Biden has recently stated that the only reason many people won't vote for obama is because he is black, I expect riots and blood if he loses.

Democrats simply cannot accept that we don't dislike Obama because of his race. We loath him because he is a far left socialist.

I like the socialist part of Obama but not the far left part. And I think that there may be many who may not vote for him because he's black, but I think Joe Biden was foolish to give voice to that because it may incite violence. But yeah, I also agree that there are many who don't like Obama because of his politics (not his race) and it's really annoying to keep having the race card thrown at it. There's something I don't trust about Obama and it has nothing to do with "black" - I think Powell would have made a fine black President, so it's not a racial issue for me at all.

democracy breaks down over time, are you familiar with how the Greeks view the cycle of government?
Democracies will fall apart because over time, the people will not pick the best leader but the person who promises them the most goodies, this leads to chaos and a single authortarian leader will raise up, a monarch, over time, the power of the monarch will be diffused and more and more people will get power, this leads to an oligarchy or ruleing class, then over time more and more people get to vote/rights/land whatever and it becomes a democracy.
It can go other ways too, democracies can turn into oligarchies or if there is a major breakdown in a monarchy (not the king and queen kind but the mono = one kind) it can go straight to democracy

remember when Bill Clinton was President? it was not, well we are trying to impeach him because he lied and broke the law, it was "we are out to get him because he is a Democrat" and the last two elections were "stolen" by Bush, in there minds the Democrats have the Mandate of the People, so they can do whatever they want, I could see a lot of riots if Obama looses

Well, no offense, but that's how it looked....It was overkill....
He committed Perjury under oath. Normal Americans go to jail for that. In fact, during that same time period there was a normal American in jail for lying about exactly the same thing while under oath.

In America we are supposed to all be equal under the law. Unfortunately, as clinton demonstrated, that isn't the case anymore.

Yes he did commit perjury so why didn't you just throw him in jail? Was it necessary to subject the public office of President to humiliation on the world stage? It was like the bloodhounds were enjoying basking in every scurrilous and unsavory tidbit, it was disgusting. By the time the Republicans had finished their disgraceful public humiliation of him I actually felt sorry for the guy, jail would have been better than to have all that disgracefulness dragged out and thrown in everyones faces.
